A charming exclusive-hire site with a bell tent, a tin shed and an outdoor bath

The Tin Shed Glamping is a rustic rural hideaway in the Wiltshire countryside that gives you the chance to live outdoors in comfort and style. You can bathe under the stars in a free-standing roll-top bath, sleep under canvas in a bell tent, and cook under the wavy tin roof of a well-equipped camp kitchen. Life here is lived mostly outdoors and totally off grid. It has solar power, harvested rainwater, a compost loo and a campfire for cooking on. And as it’s an exclusive-hire site, this sustainable rustic luxury is all yours, and only yours, for your stay.

With a double bed in the bell tent bedroom it’s perfect as a romantic getaway but, thanks to a sofa bed in the tin shed, it’s also big enough for a family of four. The shed is the heart of this place, even though it’s not where you sleep. Instead, it’s a cosy sheltered living space to read, eat and hang out with its own little terrace and a hanging egg chair that you’ll wish you had at home. This indoor-outdoor bolthole is the brainchild of your host, Tara, who has a background in interior design and owns the smallholding you're staying on. She’s a bit of a foodie and with her partner, Jordan, runs local gastro pub, The Lamb on the Strand. A visit there is highly recommended, of course, but the pair have also made it possible to enjoy their food without leaving your hideaway. You can order hampers in for breakfast, afternoon tea or dinner.

This is definitely the sort of place you could hole up at for a lazy weekend of outdoor living without the distractions of modern life. Low key but lovely local options for trips out include walking by the Kennet and Avon Canal or visiting the nearby Court Gardens. But if you’re here to explore this lovely part of the world near the Wiltshire-Somerset border, you might want to travel further. The well-to-do Somerset village of Bruton, the elegant streets of Bath and the enigmatic standing stones at Avebury Henge are all well worth getting in the car for and all within 25 miles of here.

At the Tin shed we are passionate about having a minimal impact on the environment and surrounding area; that’s why we have decided to do things a little differently here. We are an eco-friendly, sustainable site that is totally off grid which is something we are incredibly proud of! But don’t worry, we still have the luxuries you need including electricity powered by solar panels to make your stay more comfortable (please note this is dependent on the weather and therefore there may be limited to no electric during your stay) The Tin Shed is situated on a small piece of land in Semington, Wiltshire a 10 minute walk from the Kennet and Avon Canal and overlooking green fields. The Tin Shed is carefully placed on the corner of our family small holding nestled beneath the fruit trees of our orchard; if you listen carefully you may even hear our peacocks call or see our horse enjoying a graze. Your hosts, Tara and Jordan are both passionate about food and travel as well as sustainable getaways. We aim to provide you with an experience like no other influenced by our own travels and experiences!

The Tin Shed Glamping is a unique and exclusive clamping site in the heart of the Wiltshire countryside, situated on a small piece of land in Semington and a 10 minute walk from the Kennet & Avon Canal and overlooking green fields. The Tin Shed is carefully placed on the corner of our family small holding nestled beneath the fruit trees of our orchard; if you listen carefully you may even hear our peacocks call or see our horse enjoying a graze. Our season runs between April-October for exclusive weekend getaways in the heart of the Wiltshire countryside. The Tin Shed is the perfect getaway for two people or a family of four, as accommodation can be split across both the bell tent and the Tin Shed itself. At an additional cost we can provide you with hampers filled with local produce and even your own personal chef to cook over the open fire.
Nearby attractions

The Tin Shed Glamping site is just south of the Wiltshire village of Semington which sits on the Kennet and Avon Canal. The canal towpath provides one of the lovely places to walk in this rural area (there are other local footpaths across fields too). Join it and you can head west towards the edge of Trowbridge or Bradford-on-Avon or west towards Seend. The latter gives a quicker reward as there’s a canalside pub, The Barge Inn, under three miles away. By road, Wiltshire’s county town of Trowbridge is four miles away and Bradford-on-Avon is seven. Bath, with its Roman baths, elegant Royal Crescent of Georgian houses, Jane Austen Museum and abbey, is less than 15 miles away. The National Trust’s The Court Gardens are five miles away and there are plenty of historic sites in the North Wessex National Landscape including Avebury Henge (16 miles).

Food and drink

You can pre-order hampers of local produce and homemade goodies for breakfast, dinner or afternoon tea or, as an extra special treat, book chef Jordan to come and cook a campfire meal for you. Alternatively, head to gastropub The Lamb on The Strand, run by your host Tara with Jordan in the kitchen, for a meal out. It’s less than two miles from The Tin Shed Glamping. If you want to refuel after a longer walk, you could use the towpath on the Kennet and Avon Canal to reach The Barge Inn for canalside pub grub. There are other options for food and drink in the closest towns Melksham (three miles) and Trowbridge (four miles) but for something really special, your hosts recommend driving a little further to the Somerset village of Bruton (24 miles) where At The Chapel and Michelin-starred Osip are among the fine dining options.
