A relaxed, back-to-basics campsite in the West Sussex countryside

All are welcome at The Slips campsite in leafy West Sussex. Whether you come with a tent, campervan, or motorhome; with your friends, family, or dog, there’ll be a pitch for you here. This is an easy-going summer-only site in a handy location close to the village of Henfield and not far from Brighton and the South Coast. Family campers will love the fresh air and proximity to the seaside, walkers are spoilt for choice with footpaths criss-crossing the surrounding countryside and couples will love the short walk to the closest pub.

This is very much a back-to-basics campsite, with portable toilets and no showers on site but what it lacks in facilities, it makes up for in on-pitch services. There’s electricity to each of the 28 pitches if you want it, and a handy water tap for each one too. This simple site is looked after by April and Maria, who will either welcome you to site or pop by to see you later, after you’ve let yourself in through the padlocked, five-bar gate. It's a family-owned field which has been called The Slips for as long as anyone can remember, though no one is quite sure why. Perhaps it’s something to do with its position close to the peaceful River Adur, just a short walk from here.

A footpath on the riverbank provides one of the great walking routes nearby – the Downs Link, a long distance route which passes not far from here, offers another. The shops and pubs of Henfield are also within walking distance, so if you’re after a slower pace of life, just pitch up, park up and stay local. On the other hand, if you fancy the thrills and spills of the seaside, Brighton is just 13 miles from here.

Tent pitch- no electric
We had a nice 3 nights on April's land, the first and last night we were the only people there. The ground was flat and the facilities were adequate for our needs.

Whitson Camping
Great spot for those want to visit Brighton as there is a lack of sites in the area, 20mins drive. If you like a bike ride, walk or run then you have the Downs Link path too. Simple no hassle site to visit, coded entry gate, park up and sorted.

Gorgeous but basic
Plus points a plenty - Overall the site was lovely & fantastic location for visiting local wineries. Great fish n chip shop & village with local pubs / coffee shops etc. good dog walks lots of wildlife & nature to be seen. Low points - One porta loo / no onsite showers / washing up units / recycling / grey water or chemical toilet disposal point. - it was extremely basic. We watched camper vans being pulled in or out of the soft ground with tractor help / which was entertaining / good bonding experience for fellow campers but not fab for the camping families it affected. So I wouldn’t go if you have anything heavier than vW t6. As it was unmanned there was some anti social louder than average music - which kinda took away from the sounds of nature that previous reviews have stated.

Peaceful site near nice village. Helpful staff. There was just one portaloo toilet which was clean but seemed rather inadequate for the number of pitches. Only one bin, which filled up quickly. Some optional hard standing would be useful to prevent getting stuck on grass in wet weather.

Field too boggy for campervan
Unfortunately the field is not ready to drive vans on. We arrived early and the field was too boggy, but that made no difference, as it was still the same the day after. We should have been told on booking and we wouldn’t have stayed, instead had to be pulled out. Shame, as apart from that the site is as advertised.

The Slips is a new pop-up campsite situated in beautiful Henfield. This lovely but peaceful sussex site is sat right on the South Downs link with pubs, restaurants and bars within walking distance. Easy access to hop on a bus to Brighton beach and see the famous pier! Our site is secure so perfect for children to run around and have fun. Basic facilities are here at the site such has electric, water and portaloos. We welcome BBQ’s and we are dog friendly too! There’s plenty of time to relax and enjoy the peaceful countryside here at The Slips!!
Nearby attractions

The River Adur is a good place for a walk and there’s fishing too. The Downs Link also passes close by – it’s a long-distance multi-use path for walkers, cyclists and horseriders which (at its far ends) links the North Downs and the South Downs. You can visit the South Downs National Park a few miles south of here, perhaps head for the remains of the Norman Bramber Castle – which lies within the park and offers great views of the surrounding countryside. You can visit the seaside at Shoreham (10 miles), Worthing or Brighton (both 14 miles).

Food and drink

The Old Railway is the closest pub to site, about a mile away. It serves food and is both dog and family friendly and has a beer garden too. Henfield is also home to The White Hart and The Plough, a café and several shops if you want to pick up supplies to cook at the campsite.
