A simple campsite in the Test Valley, just a 15-minute walk from Stockbridge

This laid-back, year-round campsite in the beautiful Test Valley is a great place to pitch up for a relaxing stay in your tent or campervan. You can pitch where you please, you can bring your dog, and campfires are allowed. Groups are welcome and the check-in and check-out times are notably generous (arrive from 10am, leave by 4pm). All that friendly host, and organic dairy farmer, David asks is that you respect your camping neighbours: keep it down after 10pm and leave ample space between tents.

That’s not hard in this four-acre field as it could hold many more than the maximum of 55 tents and campervans allowed. Typically, campers pitch around the hedgerows leaving the centre free for games. Facilities are simple but kept in good order by David, who visits twice a day and is always on hand to answer the phone – his number is on the gate. There are individual timber-cabin composting loos and gas-powered showers; the site is fully off grid. With that in mind, don’t forget your torch, bring a powerbank if you want to charge your phone, and don’t forget to look up. The lack of light pollution means dark skies and starry nights.

Washing up is done undercover in a little potting shed and it’s here that you’ll find some information on the local area too. There’s peaceful walking and, famously, fly fishing on the River Test but for most people, the short walk to riverside Stockbridge and The Three Cups pub is enough activity for a short stay. For others, the site makes a great base from which to explore Hampshire and beyond. It’s just off the A30 which can mean a little road noise on site (though this can be countered by taking a pitch on the hedgerow furthest away). It also means there’s a quick route to the historic cities of Salisbury in one direction and Winchester in the other, both within 15 miles.

Campers visiting David's campsite are generally impressed with the beautiful location, friendly atmosphere, and proximity to the charming town of Stockbridge. The site is praised for its clean facilities, including toilets and showers, and the ample space provided for campers to relax. Many appreciate the simple yet effective amenities, such as the wash-up room and hot showers, and enjoy the peaceful environment. However, some guests have noted noise issues from other campers during late hours, which might be a consideration for families.

A relaxing, quiet, family break

Fantastic campsite, the host is really friendly and helpful, he gave us a warm welcome and was lovely with our dogs. The shower block is clean and well kept, and the washing up block is well maintained too. The site is tidy and clean, while not huge I felt we had plenty of space. We parked our small campervan on a hard standing site, and the rest of the site wasn’t particularly muddy. There were several other campers with dogs, everyone we encountered was friendly and clearly enjoying the wonderful quiet site! The site is a short walk or drive to Stockbridge, so if you need anything from the town it isn’t a hassle to get to. The town is worth a visit, so having a campsite in such close vicinity is a treat. I would highly recommend this site, I camp regularly throughout the year and this is one of the nicest sites I’ve visited.

Farm Campsite 15 minutes walk down a country bridleway to the bustling market town of Stockbridge Hampshire. Short drive to Winchester, Salisbury, and Stonehenge. Little longer drive to the New Forest and South Coast. We have 55 pitches on 4 acres, with some hard standings, and are open all year. We have showers, compost loos, and a washing up room.
Nearby attractions

As the name of this campsite suggest, it’s not far to the market town of Stockbridge. There’s a bridleway directly from site which you can use to get you to the edge of town, just half a mile away. To get there you pass over the River Test, which is another of the great highlights of the area, known as the birthplace of fly fishing. You can walk on its banks on the Test Way. From parts of the campsite, you can see Danebury Hillfort, an iron age hill fort, two miles away. It’s a pleasant place for a walk and there are information boards but no visitor centre. For more history (and other things of interest), head to the ancient cathedral cities of Salisbury (14 miles) or Winchester (10 miles). The National Trust’s Mottisfont Abbey is eight miles from site. Old Sarum, Stonehenge and the New Forest are within half an hour’s drive.

Food and drink

Stockbridge has a range of places to eat and drink including The Three Cups Inn, which is the closest pub to site, about a 15-minute walk away, and recommended by site owner David. He also recommends The White Hart Inn and Prego Italian Dining and Deli, which is great for coffee, breakfasts, lunches – and stocking up picnic goodies. For a country pub, try The Boot Inn in the village of Houghton (two miles) or the John O’Gaunt Inn at Horsebridge (four miles).
