A simple campsite at the foot of Glastonbury Tor

You can feel good about pitching your tent at the foot of Glastonbury Tor if you choose to do so at Paddington Farm. This place is part farm, part campsite and part social enterprise. That means profits are ploughed back into the charitable aims of The Paddington Farm Trust; namely connecting young people with nature through activities and education. That’s one good reason to choose this Somerset campsite but another is what it’ll give you – a peaceful pitch in a field from where you can easily walk up Glastonbury Tor or into what must be the UK's most bohemian town.

There’s certainly plenty to do there. You can visit the peaceful gardens surrounding the Chalice Well, explore the ruins of Glastonbury Abbey and mooch about the high street where incense fills the air and crystals adorn almost every window. Walking up the tor is pretty much obligatory and there’s plenty more walking in the surrounding countryside if that’s what you like to do. The tiny city of Wells, is just six miles up the road on the edge of the Mendip Hills and the area's most dramatic sight, Cheddar Gorge, is a half-hour drive away.

Back on the farm, you should find just the place to relax after all the exploration. It’s a simple set up with little to distract you from nature. Pitches are all off grid and free form in one of the farm’s fields and a neighbouring orchard. It’s a laid-back place for tents and small campervans only and dogs on leads are welcome. Facilities include an open-air washing-up sink, a couple of flushing loos in a handbuilt timber shed and hot showers in a converted milking shed. It’s rustic, eco friendly and just right for the setting. If you’re interested in the goings on of the farm, you are welcome to meet the animals. There are goats, alpacas, sheep and ponies and there’s a productive, organic garden too.

Glastonbury camping at it finest. Back to basics site on a charity run working farm. We grow organic fruit and veg, produce our own organic apple juice on site and have a varied mix of animals, goats, pigs, alpacas, sheep and ponies are all waiting to meet you. At the foot of the famous Glastonbury Tor Paddington Farm is a place to reconnect with nature and relax. Facilities include toilets, hot showers, and the use of fire braziers. All profits that we make are put towards supporting our core aim of facilitating nature connection and access to the countryside, particularly for disadvantaged young people.

Paddington Farm Camping
Lovely laid back feel campsite. Great views. Walking distance to Glastonbury Tor for sunset set stroll. Spacious shower room in the old milking parlour. Fun rustic play area for the kids, and the added bonus of an owl sanctuary on site. Win win win for us.

Camping in an orchard at foot of To
I loved my stay at Paddington Farm. We parked our small campervan in a beautiful apple orchard at the foot of the Tor, which gave me strong Avalon vibes in a good, pure and natural way. The facilities are basic but clean and nice, all you need really. Becky was really sweet and gave good directions to visit the Tor and Glastonbury. I strongly recommend but only if you are like me and love the simple, natural life. If you love glamping, I strongly recommend you find another place to stay.

Big skies below a Big Tor ♥️= bliss
We loved our stay at Paddington Farm, it is basic but that’s precisely what we like, they provided all we needed, toilets (private but open air), showers (plentiful hot water from electric showers in what we believed to be an old milking shed), open air washing up, a small efficient chest freezer for ice blocks, wood at £5 for a decent net full and views that went on for miles. There are two camping fields, one amongst the trees of an apple orchard and one in an open field. We enjoyed the local area, a simple but beautiful walk to Glastonbury Tor through the fields, a 25 minute walk into the local town, day trips to Frome, Stonehenge and Clark’s village and lots of time mindlessly drinking in the view. A chilled site with plenty of space housing many a bell tent. We can’t wait to come back x

Lovely basis campsite on an organic farm. We were given a choice to camp in the orchard or the field, chose the field for the beautiful view. Its very peaceful, you cant hear and traffic. Glastonbury is only 30 min walk. Showers in the Milking pen werent my thing.

Very nice.
Very nice campsite in a peaceful setting just outside Glastonbury town not far from Glastonbury Tor. Clean and tidy toilets, I'd definitely stay there again.

Nearby attractions

The most prominent site nearby is, of course, Glastonbury Tor which stands out in the otherwise flat landscape of the Somerset Levels. There’s a 15th century tower, the remains of a church, atop it and the hill has plenty of legends associated with it. Whatever your beliefs, the views alone are worth the short uphill hike. Two water sources, the Chalice Well and the White Spring, are found at the bottom of the tor. You can pay to go into the gardens surrounding the Chalice Well and to dip your toes in or drink the iron-rich water that flows there. There’s also a temple around the White Spring where the water is calcium rich. Both are said to be healing. The town centre is about a mile from the campsite and is where you’ll find Glastonbury Abbey which has a long history connected to both Joseph of Arimathea and King Arthur, who is said to be buried there. The city of Wells (six miles) is the smallest in the UK but its cathedral is impressively large with the Bishop’s Palace another historic attraction next door. Cheddar with its famous caves and impressive gorge is a few miles further on (14 miles from the farm) in the Mendip Hills. The hills are a National Landscape and a popular place for walking, caving and cycling.

Food and drink

Fruit and vegetables grown on the farm are sold at Glastonbury Market which takes place in the town centre on Tuesday mornings. There’s also plenty of shops in the town including an ethical, organic supermarket as well as small supermarkets and grocery stores. There are plenty of cafes, tearooms and pubs to eat out at too. If you’re in Cheddar – don’t miss your chance to pick up some of the cheese that’s aged in the caves.
