Some glamping sites talk about sustainability. Others let actions do the work. With a zero-waste shop, a tree planted for every booking and a strict quota on numbers, Sunrise Eco Glamping do the latter. And the comforts you desire? They’re still not compromised.
Set in a small meadow, surrounded by farmland and behind a thriving plant centre in an old agricultural barn, Sunrise Eco Glamping channels the owners’ passions for peace, nature and comfort into eco-friendly, off grid camping. Sitting on roughly four-and-a-half acres of quiet Nottinghamshire countryside, the site has only a small handful of pitches, ensuring a real escape from the crowds… Crowds of people at least. A quarter of the campsite is occupied by a small herd of inquisitive alpacas, who boast the official title of ‘glamping neighbours and guardians’. You’ll soon be on first name basis with Leo, Gerry, Freddie and Billy after the second or third time they pop their noses over the fence to check you're okay.
Most visitors don’t arrive with their own tents but pluck for the pre-pitched ‘Stargazers’ instead. Each is furnished with comfy beds, a wood burning stove and has clear ceiling panels for admiring the night sky. Nestled next to the stream, they have a prized position and easy access to piping hot showers and a ‘grill and chill’ shack, accompanied by kitchen facilities, decked out with fairy lights and keeping you covered from the rain. There’s a small coffee shop and a communal indoor wood shack too, the latter with a giant television screening films, programmes and old footage of Glastonbury Festival.
In the tiny hamlet of Saundby near to Beckingham, it’s a wonderfully quiet and rural spot to stay and is easily reached from major cities like Leeds, Nottingham and Sheffield. If you’re looking to make the most of your peaceful retreat you don’t need to travel far from the site. There are some great local walks right from the farm, including a scenic route from Sunrise Eco’s doorstep along the beautiful River Trent. And the historic city of Lincoln, complete with castle and cathedral, is a half-hour drive in the car.
We charge the same whether mid week, week-end, bank or school holiday - we believe in keeping things fair and simple. A proper double bed is where you'll get your great nights sleep in Aurora. With a premium mattress, alpaca fleece mattress topper and pillows, luxury linens as standard and extra blankets if you need them - all the ingredients necessary to sleep well. After all, this is the time our body does the most healing, the time it repairs and rejuvenates and every night counts. You'll find extra furnishings which include seating and storage so you can live clutter free for the duration of your stay. The wood burning stove forms a real focal point of your belle - for heating, for cooking, for brewing coffee or for just watching the gentle fire through the inbuilt glass window. Ours have level side shelves too which are super useful when cooking or drying clothes. A comfy sofa provides additional seating in front of the wood burning stove.
We fell in love with Lotus Stargazer Belle Tents and just knew they were right for us. The minimum head height across the whole 5m footprint of the belle inside is 5'8" due to their unique 'onion' shape. They feel spacious, are really quirky, which we love, and due to the extra cocoon lining and wood burning stove are as cosy as you need on cooler nights, yet stay lovely and airy in summer, due to their innovative design. Made from 380gsm coated canvas, a built in heavy duty 'bathtub' style groundsheet, with EU regulation fire proofing, UV protection and built in water and rot protection, not only are they safe, they are designed with your comfort and experience in mind. The central wooden pole is a feature we love and ours have fixing points for lighting. The walls of the belle are adorned with bunting and fairy lights to really bring home that glamping vibe!
Outside your belle is your own campfire cooking set for your own exclusive use. Set on it's own base, with a couple of chairs alongside, you'll be able to spend many a moment by the fire, cooking your supper, warming some mulled wine or just toasting marshmallows, it's a really great way to while away a few hours.
Living sustainably while you're here is mega important to us which is why we've opted for solar powered lighting for our belles. In addition, we've opted for no flush lavs. Each belle is assigned its own for exclusive use - we call them lav shacks cos we lav them! The amount of water saved is huge and they are easy and simple to use. Our showers, built and designed by the same company, run off mains water and have been built with you, our guest in mind. Easy to use and discreet, showering outside (but screened of course!) Is truly when you feel at one with nature. For those that want a more exhilarating experience, we suggest you run it without hot water - we dare you!
Aurora is decorated with peace, quiet and calm in mind, in neutral tones and sleeps 2 adults.
*Price based on two people sharing and staying a minimum of two nights. Membership charge to The Greener Camping Club will be automatically added to your booking. Please note cars are not permitted onto the glamping / camping areas and are parked on the hard standing car park close by.
