Bell tent and shepherd's hut glamping in a wild and luscious space, 5 minutes from Bodiam Castle.

Stone Pit Meadows provides a secluded, spacious, and scenic retreat tucked away in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The glampsite’s two modern shepherds huts and three fully-furnished bell tents are nestled within 45 acres of ancient woodland, vineyards, ponds, and wildflower meadows, all waiting to be explored. Go wild swimming, take a paddleboard down the nearby River Rother, or head to the South Coast during your stay.

Hosted by father-and-daughter duo, Peter and Nicola, who approached their glamping business with a winning ethos – "what would we like to see if we were staying here?" — the place abounds with welcoming touches. Think marshmallows around your firepit, food to scatter for the moorhens, and hand-written notes about local footpaths.

The bell tents are comfortably furnished with double beds, while the two cosy shepherd's huts boast Instagram-worthy modern decor and come equipped with your essentials – a kettle, microwave, fridge, and everything else you’d need. A separate toilet and shower unit is available in the next field over, discreetly located amid the trees.

There are acres to explore, speckled with the odd pond (one of which you can swim in) and with a drawbridge across the water to a wildflower meadow. Take a public footpath through the ancient woodland to the local villages of Newenden, Sandhurst, and Bodiam. The latter has a boating station, where you can hire paddleboards and kayaks, as well as the quintessential, moated, Bodiam Castle. It's also just a short drive to Battle Abbey, Hastings, and the coast.

Primrose - 5m Bell Tent
Lovely, peaceful site, and our tent was clean and well equipped. Phone reception was virtually non-existent so the WiFi service appreciated so we weren’t completely ‘off grid’! Would thoroughly recommend.

Primrose - 5m Bell Tent
Perfect Primrose
Lovely spot nestled between the grapes and the hops of quiet Kent. Had a perfect couple of nights in spite of some spotty weather, but the bell tent kept us (and the dog) dry and cosy when required, and the facilities and considerations on site meant we were never without glamping comfort.

Southdown - luxury Shepherds Hut
Chill glamping
Compact, cute and well-kitted out hut with comfortable sleeping area, kitchen and shower room. The yurts and shepherd's huts were decently spaced out and all overlook the wildflower meadow so there was a good level of privacy between those staying. Stayed for a weekend but would have happily stayed longer given the peaceful setting. British summertime weather hampered the outdoor fire pit cooking somewhat but the 2x induction hob offered a solid back-up. Location gave easy access to walks around the vineyards and paths beyond. The swim pond made for a fun quick dip if you are hardy and not bothered by a bit of pond weed. Heading out by car, it's well-located for places to visit in the High Weald (Bedgebury Pinetum, Bodiam Castle etc) and various farm shops for local food and drink options.

Hidden away luxury Bell Tents
We loved our stay at Nicola’s Glamping site. The location was stunning and everything we could possibly want was there, from the comfy bed to the epic marshmallow forks! We’ll definitely be back! (Plus Barney the dog loved it too!)

Hidden away luxury Bell Tents
Exceptional site.
Nicola met me as my daughter and I drove into the site and greeted us with a warm welcome and a walk around the bell tent and facilities. She returned some time later with the hamper I had ordered and checked in on us again. The following day Nicola popped along to say hello as she welcomed other guests in to their tent. The site was perfectly set up, perfectly quiet for what I was looking for, and very central in terms of local points of interest and activities. Definitely worth a visit.

Our family has owned this 45 acre farm, deep in the heart of the High Weald AONB, for over 40 years. The majority is now laid to vines grown for award-winning Kent wine producer Chapel Down, but over the last few years we have created a 12 acre glamping haven in a corner of the farm. The glamping site now consists of meadows, wildflowers, ponds (including one wild swimming pond) and ancient woodland. This really is a tranquil haven hidden deep in rural Kent.
Food and drink

The site is located between two popular local pubs, each reachable in a 15-minute walk or less than a 5-minute drive. The White Hart is a 16th-century village inn serving hearty pub grub and boasting unique outdoor dining stables and a large beer garden. Go here for dining and drinks with views across to the Kent & East Sussex steam railway line. Alternatively, you have the New Swan, a "local lounge" which prides itself on regular entertainment. Enjoy a range of beers and cocktails here, along with pub games like darts and pool, plus some cracking pizza. If you need to do a run for supplies, then head to the nearby town of Tenterden for a Waitrose and Tesco, along with a variety of places to eat and drink – book a table (01580 388182) in Montalbano for authentic Italian food, or Özgür (01580 763248) for Turkish.

Nearby attractions

Guests can reach Bodiam Castle from the site via its network of public footpaths, or take the boat from Bodiam Boating Station for a more scenic cruise along the water. A picturesque spot, this medieval 14th-century moated castle is a romantic, ruinous monument that will serve as the perfect backdrop to your holiday photos. Hire out a kayak, canoe, or stand-up paddleboard from Bodiam Boating Station, providing fun days out on the water and with a cafe (complete with a licensed bar!) waiting for you at the end of your adventure. In less than a 15-minute drive you can reach the Kent and East Sussex Railway, which provides steam train journeys throughout the beautiful Rother Valley.
