No prizes for guessing the nearest town to this campsite! Tucked between Hastings and Battle, this charming Hipcamp is ideally positioned for exploring 1066 country, with spacious pitches, a good pub over the road, and footpaths on the doorstep, including a good route that links up with the 1066 Country Walk. It's an adult-only campsite (you need to be over 16 to stay), making it a quiet, child-free haven in the busy school holiday period.
Hastings 1066 is a small site. There are only five non-electric camping pitches, situated within the grounds of a family-run smallholding, set alongside five pre-erected bell tents, which are unfurnished and can accommodate up to six people. Amenities are simple; there are no showers, but the toilets and washing-up areas are clean and impeccably maintained. A small honesty shop is stocked with your essentials—including marshmallows to toast on your campfire—and raised barbecues are welcome.
Campers here are an eclectic and welcoming mix. There are folks heading to and from the continent, looking for a stop-over with a pleasant pub for dinner (The Black Horse does particularly good pies), and there are plenty of history buffs, coming to explore Battle Abbey, tour the Battle of Hastings site, and visit Hastings Castle. Of course, there are plenty that just come for the great location more generally, with woods to explore, and the beaches around St. Leonards and Eastbourne just a short drive away. All in all, it's a thoroughly excellent, simple, little site.
