Vintage charm and modern comfort combine in this gleaming retro caravan, parked up in its own meadow on a farm near King’s Lynn, Norfolk. This stylish little hideaway for two has the look of an old school Airstream but it’s actually a brand new British-made Rocket caravan. It’s as comfortable and functional as it is cool. Plus, it sits in a lovely setting reflecting scenes of the Norfolk countryside on its curvy, mirrored shell.
Permanently parked at Hall Farm, this vintage-style van offers its guests a private setting in a meadow surrounded by a small woodland. It has a fire pit and seating outside. So far, so nostalgic. But, step through the door, and the interior is far more functional than you might expect, with every space cleverly designed to make sure you have all you need for your stay. There’s a dining room, a bedroom, a kitchen, shower, and loo. And because, despite the look, this caravan is contemporary, it has mod cons too: double glazing, a flatscreen TV, heating, air con, a cooker, and fridge.
The location at Hall Farm is a good one: it’s peaceful and secluded but it’s also within walking distance of a good pub. Although it’s not on the coast, it’s a good location from which to explore it, with the big names in North Norfolk beaches fanned around it in a series of 20-minute drives and a number stately homes and country estates much closer than that. Houghton Hall is close by, Sandringham not too far, and then out on the coast, there’s Snettisham RSPB reserve in the east and Hunstanton a bit further north. Thornham, Brancaster, and Wells-next-the-Sea are all within that 20-minute radius too, not forgetting the well-to-do inland village of Burnham Market.
Our two person, UK made Airstream (Rocket) caravan offers streamlined, comfortable Glamping (comfy bed! ergonomic kitchen, loo, basin and shower) . Situated in a small woody spot on our working, arable farm, Hall Farm Hideaway offers peace in nature, a good pub within walking distance and small shop. Holkham, Sandringham and Houghton nearby. 25 minute drive to the lovely North Norfolk coast. Therapeutic massage can be booked. Wood fired Hot tub to follow (Spring 2023).Hall Farm is well located for exploring all of North Norfolk. It’s situated near the villages of East and West Rudham which sit on the A-road between Kings Lynn and Cromer, with the market town of Fakenham inbetween. That means there’s a fast (by Norfolk standards) way to get to any of them. It’s also less than 20 minutes to the nearest beaches: Snettisham, where there’s an RSPB reserve, Hunstanton, Brancaster and Wells-next-the-Sea. Cromer, for crabbing, and Blakeney, for seal watching, are a bit further but not too far for a day trip. Stately homes and grand country estates are not in short supply. In fact, Houghton House, home of Britain’s first prime minister, is less than three miles away. The Royal family’s estate at Sandringham is not far away either, about nine miles from the site. The market towns and pretty villages of the area also make great places to visit; Burnham Market, for example, with its independent boutiques and eateries is 12 miles away and en route to one of Norfolk’s most unspoilt beaches at Burnham Overy Staithe.
There’s a good pub within walking distance: The Crown Inn in East Rudham with a menu of seasonal local produce. Down the road in West Rudham there’s a Cantonese restaurant at The Duke’s Head which does takeaways too. For lunch out, and/or local produce to cook back on site, perhaps head for Bircham Stores which is a short drive or a pleasant cycle of six miles away. For more than that, head to the market town of Fakenham, eight miles down the road, where there are supermarkets, independent shops and a Thursday market.
