There’s no roughing it in Dittisham Hideaway, a Devonshire glampsite where couples and families can escape in luxurious treehouses, cosy shepherd's lodges, or a vintage reclaimed American Airstream. Located on the outskirts of Dittisham, a riverside village known as one of the prettiest places to visit in South Devon, the site's secluded nine acres are also only a short drive away from Dartmouth.
Dittisham Hideaway's treehouses are its focal point, tucked away in a wooded valley and elevated for views across the treetops. On sunny days you'll surely spend most of your time on the spacious furnished decking, lazing in the hammock, or taking a dip in the wood-fired hot tub. The kids can be kept occupied with the outdoor table football and chess sets, while the adults can cook up a storm on the barbecue before relaxing on the sun loungers. Inside, the treehouses replicate the feel of a luxury hotel with their underfloor heating, Egyptian cotton bed linen, and en-suite bathrooms with power showers, while a welcome hamper with West Country produce awaits all guests.
Couples can also stay in the Airstream or one of the site's various shepherd's lodges. The former is a vintage trailer built in the '50s, and while it retains its retro charms, it's also been modernised with additions such as a smart TV and sound system, WiFi, and a well-equipped kitchenette that includes all of your necessities. It's also positioned on its own private decking and boasts its own hot tub, along with seating for al fresco dining.
The shepherd's lodges are much larger than you'd see elsewhere – big enough to welcome your four-legged friends – and their position in the wildflower meadow gives you immediate access to a variety of lovely walks, not to mention the various public footpaths that run throughout the local neighbourhood. For further exploration of the area, you're less than a mile away from the River Dart where you can go kayaking or paddleboarding, and at its mouth is the quiet Sugary Cove beach for a day by the sea.
