Spa glamping in East Devon, with luxury bell tents, a sauna, and hydrotherapy showers.

Need some pampering? Love a little luxury? Welcome to the concept of ‘spa glamping’. Yes, it's a thing. And you can find it at Hartridge Springs in East Devon. Think of working up a sweat in a woodfired sauna before cooling off in a hydrotherapy shower (equipped with Bluetooth speakers for your favourite soothing tunes). And all set in seven private acres of the Blackdown Hills, just a 20-minute drive from the Jurassic Coast. It's a thing. Fluffy, embroidered, spa dressing gown and all.

The aim at Hartridge Springs is simple: Guests should leave feeling rejuvenated. This starts with the accommodation. Each of the five bell tents is fitted with high-end furnishings, from Egyptian cotton sheets to hardwood beds and spring mattresses. All your cooking and dining equipment is provided, and there are endless smaller touches, like tea-light candelabras and fresh flowers. It's an easy break and one that's very accommodating too, being both child and dog friendly.

The water that powers Hartridge Springs’ spa facilities is natural alkaline spring water, sourced from an aquifer 100ft beneath the ground. This runs up and into the sauna, as well as the private shower and loo areas – each pitch has access to its own facilities. The environmental awareness is further exemplified by the solar-electric power and the panoramic wood-burner inside your tent, which will keep you warm with wood sourced from the surrounding woodland.

And what surroundings – sixteen acres of private woodland are ready to be explored, overlooking the scenic Otter Valley. You might meet the site's neighbours, the monks of the Hartridge Buddhist Monastery, and on Sundays, you can even sit in on their meditations. Further afield it's a 30-minute drive to the "Pearl of Dorset", the seaside town of Lyme Regis, and 40 minutes to Exmouth Beach's beautiful two-mile stretch of sand.

The source of Hartridge Springs’ name derives from the natural (alkaline) spring water that lies in the aquifer 100ft below Hartridge. Hartridge Springs is a glamping enterprise like no other. We’re new to the game and disruptive in pursuing excellence through our uniqueness. A discerning family business; HS is an extension of this ethos as well as our own personalities. We’re inventing spa glamping. Picture yourself in luxurious spa facilities enjoyed in a magical, natural backdrop. This is not your standard ‘tent in a field’ business. Spa facilities? Wood-fired sauna, hydrotherapy showers and NASA incinerating loos. Each guest has access to their own exclusive shower and loo block.
Nearby attractions

Lyme Regis is roughly a 30-minute drive away. Known as the heart of the Jurassic Coast, there are a variety of beaches here, from the popular family-friendly destination Front Beach – the town's only sandy beach – to the predominantly pebble Monmouth Beach. Accessible from Monmouth's car park is The Cobb, a famous harbour wall dating back to the 13th century that lets you stand on its Victoria Pier for a tremendous view over the Lyme Bay – book one of the many boat trips that set off from here for a better look. The Cobb also features a small marine aquarium you can visit. Charmouth is a 30-minute drive away, a seaside village with a sandy beach – popular among fossil hunters due to the high number of them found here – that is ideal for those wanting a beach day without all the tourists.

Food and drink

Your local is the Sidmouth Arms, a 30-minute walk from the site. You won't miss it from the outside; located in the scenic village of Uppotery, its gorgeous and imposing exterior is a real hub for locals who travel all across the nearby area to eat and drink here. There's outdoor seating for sunny days and a menu of hearty pub classics for both afternoon and evening dining. Otter Valley Ice Cream and Field Kitchen is a 10-minute drive away, serving a wide range of delicious ice creams with tremendous panoramic countryside views. There's also a full menu of breakfast and lunch options, too, and given its positioning along the A30, it's an excellent pit stop if you're exploring the area. When travelling down to Lyme Regis, The Whole Hog comes highly recommended, serving unique street food – think pork roast rolls and jam donuts – all through a hole in the wall.
