An exclusive hire site with a cute and cosy cabin and a rustic shepherd's hut in charmingly rural East Cornwall

Looking like they dropped into the meadow during a Wizard of Oz-style tornado, the cabin and the shepherds hut at Pigscombe make up a glamping site that's a true one-of-a-kind. Exclusively hired to one couple, family or group at a time, this pair of lovingly hand-crafted hidey holes are perfect for anyone looking to get close to nature but away from the crowds. Owners Philippa and Ian love this part of East Cornwall — the 'Forgotten Corner,' as it's sometimes known, with visitors eager to get to the more famous bits of the coast. But if you can be persuaded to take the plunge, there's so much here to enjoy in one of the most rural and historic parts of the county. To be fair, the Pigscombe Piglet cabin and shepherds hut do most of the persuading. Both are so charmingly put together. The octagonal, pixie-hatted cabin and beautiful self built shepherds hut sit on a slope of long grass and wildflowers. There's nothing to disturb you save the call of the birds and the occasional roar of a tractor. Both are neatly fashioned inside, with colour-coordinated bed frames and country-style furniture. The cabin sleeps two with plenty of space because the rustic kitchen and quirky bathroom are in a separate shack, put together using reclaimed materials, up-cycled furniture, and handmade tiles. The shepherds hut has a fine double brass bed and 2 bunks so is perfect for friends, kids or grandparents, making the whole camp sleep 6. So, couples can hire the octagonal Piglet Cabin on its own for romantic stays or the whole camp can be a more sociable spot. Outside, there's a fire pit that you can use as a barbecue — and nothing but clear nights, starry skies, and the hooting of owls to accompany whatever you manage to whip up in the kitchen or on the grill. If you run short of wood, you can take a saw down to the bottom of the field and gather your own from the fallen branches, and maybe stand still for long enough to catch a glimpse of the local deer. Ian makes fresh bread once a week, and there are courgettes, tomatoes, beans, and the like available from Philippa's garden when they have surplus available. Their house is just within view, but they are unobtrusive hosts — on arrival please go to the front door of the house and the owners will show you around and then leave you in peace. That said, you could do with a chat or two if you're to find the best places to visit from your magical little bolthole. There are plenty of country walks right off the property, and hideaway beaches such as Lantic Bay and Lansallos that are a bit more off the beaten track.  The immediate surroundings, too, are generally less busy than bucket-and-spade, fishing-harbour Cornwall, with riverside places like Lerryn and Lostwithiel being great targets for a lazy day doing nothing much at all. And when it's time to head back, you know what to do — just click your heels together to find your way home to the cutest camp in Cornwall.

Cabin + Shepherds Hut in this gorgeous "forgotten corner" of the Cornish Countryside. Enjoy amazing views + countryside walks by day + cooking at home, stargazing by the fire pit or lighting the wood burner + cozying up in the cabin by night. If you can tear yourselves away from this special place with its soaring buzzards there are secluded beaches, moorlands, rivers and valleys to be explored and only 25 minutes to Eden! Primary accommodation is in our Cabin, with a secondary Shepherds Hut The spacious hexagonal cabin has a very comfortable double bed, small table and chairs, a chest of drawers and a woodburning stove. The shepherds hut contains a double bed + bunk bed for up to 4 additional guests. The other wooden building has a small but fully functioning kitchen with everything you will need. The owners have thoughtfully provided some basics, tea, coffee, sugar, pasta and some herbs etc…. Just help yourself. Next to this is the bathroom which has a huge walk in shower with plenty of hot water. There is also a hand basin and a composting loo. Outside there is a pub style table to eat at or comfy chairs around the firepit/ barbecue with amazing views across the countryside. The whole place has creative touches everywhere and there is even a secret turf seat and fairy lights to add more to magical nights. Access: Guests will have the whole site to themselves and have access to the whole field and 5 additional fields for roaming and dog walking. We are very dog friendly and do have our own young sprocker who just loves to entertain guests!

Perfect getaway…
The Piglet was the perfect, peaceful hideaway for a week in the sunshine. Stunning views across the countryside, evenings spent star-gazing and toasting marshmallows around the fire-pit, lazy breakfasts watching the bird-life… bliss! Great location (albeit down some very narrow lanes) - perfect as base to explore this corner of Cornwall. Fowey, Polperro, Lerryn, Lantic Bay etc. All with the bonus of a friendly resident dog (the adorable Mizzle). Highly recommended!

We had a wonderful stay at the Pigscombe Piglet - everything was so carefully put together, from the well-stocked kitchen to the incredibly comfortable bed to the gorgeous fairy lights. The views from the shepherd’s hut were beautiful and it’s a short drive from several lovely beaches. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

We were so excited to spend 3 nights in the Piglet. We were warmly greeted by Philippa, Ian and their 8 month puppy Mizzle. The piglet is perfectly kitted out for a cosy stay, complete with wood burner, games and the warmest of showers. It is in the perfect location to explore the Cornish Coast, or, as we chose to do, to stay in land and explore Bodmin Moor, Golitha Falls and the surrounding rolling hills. Pelynt and Fowey are both nearby with some great restaurants on offer, we chose to cosy down in the evenings in the Piglet though. Our dog and Mizzle goton incredibly well running around in the adjacent field whilst we supped G+Ts in the gorgeous camping chairs next to the bonfire. The kitchen is fully equipped- including coffee and tea, herbs and spices, as well as pasta and lentils. Philippa and Ian have really thought of everything. We were so sad to leave, but will be back again! Thank you so much for a wonderful get away.

Countryside Cabin + Shepherds Hut
We spent 2 nights in this peaceful, stunning and cosy place, we absolutely loved it and can't wait to be back! Easy to reach, yet out of main roads, yet just 15min drive from some stunning beaches on the coastal path. The bed is so cosy it's like sleeping on a cloud, the wood burner keeps the room toasty if it gets chilly in the evening (we went mid October)and it's so peaceful you'll sleep like a log. The kitchen is fully equipped (pantry essential ingredients, pans and pots, cafetière, gas oven, can opener..bottle opener..yes!yes! yes!!) And the hot shower works a treat especially after a big walk and swim! There is also a fire outside where you can cook on or just keep warm whilst looking at the stars (we were very lucky with the weather!) We also got the chance to play with the family's new puppy which was an extra bonus to an already 5 stars experience. Thank you so much!! We will be back :)

Pigscombe Piglet is special……..There are no mowed lawns and manicured borders here. Long grasses, wild flowers, far reaching views, big skies, buzzards soaring above, geese calling, you may see deer and foxes, you’ll hear and probably see barn owls too. If you are looking to be close to nature, away from the crowds and just relaxing in the absolute peace of rural Cornwall then Pigscombe Piglet is a magical place tucked away where no one can find you. There are 2 places for laying your heads down, the Piglet Cabin sleeps 2 and if you wish to have additional accommodation the Piglet Shepherds Hut sleeps 4 (one double and bunk beds). There is a strong sense of history and ancient life here and our aim is to touch lightly on this land and for our guests to feel totally peaceful and at one with their surroundings. This is a place to sit around the fire pit in the evening and listen to the wonders of the countryside and if the corn or grass needs gathering then that can mean the odd tractor too! The accommodation is set in the field next to our home so we will welcome you and show you the ropes and then leave you to relax and enjoy knowing that we are happy to help if needed. This area is known as “The Forgotten Corner” as tourists tend to whizz by on their way further West. Of course the seaside towns of Looe and Polperro get busy in the summer but other beaches are some of the quietest in Cornwall. This is probably also due to the fact that they are all a little more challenging to get to than a level walk from a carpark. So, if you don’t mind a wander through the woods or a steep cliff path then you will be rewarded with beautiful quiet beaches even in the height of the summer.
Nearby attractions

You're bound to head for the coast at some point, but it's worth exploring the hidden bits of inland Cornwall, if only for some respite from the summer beach crowds. The old town of Lostwithiel, for example, is only a 15-minute drive, now famed for its antique shops but with plenty of reminders of its illustrious past, from the medieval bridge over the River Fowey to the extraordinary circular ruins of Restormel Castle (01208 872687).

For beaches, the seaside towns of Looe and Polperro — around a 20-minute drive to either — are the big local draws, but they will get busy. It's a more interesting day out to drive the ten minutes to the Bodinnick Ferry (01726 870232) which will take you over to the lovely estuary town of Fowey, where you can mess about on the river, take a boat ride, eat locally caught seafood, check out the shops or just watch the boats go by. You can also use the ferry for the circular four-mile Hall Walk (details on the ferry website), which canters up and down around the Fowey estuary for some scintillating views.

Other big-ticket attractions are all well within an hour's drive of the farm — Newquay, if you fancy some surfing and hi-jinks, or the rather less frenetic gardens and biomes of the Eden Project (01726 811972), which is only half an hour away, past Lostwithiel. That's a big day out in its own right, but if it inspires you, you'll want to allow another day to see The Lost Gardens of Heligan (01726 845100), a 40-minute drive, where Europe's largest garden restoration project has an amazing array of trails and landscapes, from ancient woodland to tropical jungle.
Food and drink

The closest place for a meal and a drink is the Old Mill (01503 220220) bar and restaurant at the Stonerush Lakes lodge resort, which is just a half mile  walk away. For supplies, including beer and wine, there's a well-stocked community shop (01503 220997) at Lanreath, a three-mile drive away, and when the village's 17th-century Punch Bowl Inn re-opens again after refurbishment, that will be another local pub to try. It's a couple of miles further to Pelynt for a bigger shop, including the local Spar for whole foods, world foods and fresh veggies, and the butchers in the Premier supermarket for locally farmed meat and homemade sausages.

The coast is an obvious target if you fancy a seaside pub, but for something a bit more off the beaten track, drive to the charming creekside village of Lerryn, 10 minutes away by car. The Ship Inn (01208 872374) here is a friendly pub with a beer garden and barbecue area, and serves classic bar meals or a fancier menu in the Willows restaurant.

Another insiders' excursion is to the cascades of the Golitha Falls National Nature Reserve, a mile west of the village of St Cleer. After strolling along the river and scrambling over the rocks, you can eat at the very cool Inkie's Smokehouse (07849 488655), for authentic pit-smoked barbecued meats, burgers, dogs, po'boys, salads, and sourdough.
