Back-to-basics camping at the foot of the Roaches in the Peak District National Park

Climbers, walkers and, well, any fans of the great outdoors will love the simple set up on offer at this dog-friendly Peak District campsite. The site’s 50 informal campfire-friendly pitches for tents and campervans are spread across six acres with views of the impressive gritstone ridge of The Roaches. From here, you can hike up the hills, scramble on rocks, walk through dramatic natural caverns or take a peaceful stroll around nearby Tittesworth Reservoir. And after? Probably refuelling at the local Three Horseshoes Inn.

Camping at The Hollies is a back-to-basics farm-style campsite run by friendly owner Louise. If she’s not on hand to welcome you, she’ll leave instructions for you at the farm gate. Let yourself in, set yourself up and she’ll be around to meet you later. Whether you come in a tent or a campervan, you get to pitch where you please as there are no marked-out pitches here. Campfires are allowed as long (as they are kept off the ground) and fire pits and logs are available, too, if you haven’t brought your own. As you might expect from a wild-ish site like this, facilities are just enough: a couple of toilets, a water supply and a washing-up station with showers planned for 2023.

There may be no clubhouse on site but, despite the rural location, the facilities you might expect from one are close by thanks to the café and playground at Tittesworth Reservoir, less than a mile down the road. It’s also a great spot for walks, watersports and birdwatching too. But of course it’s the hillier, rockier climbs that most will come for: the scramble up The Roaches is too close for most visitors to resist. A little further over the ridge, meanwhile, a natural, fern-clad chasm, nearly 80 metres deep, makes for a truly dramatic spectacle too (follow footpath signs for 'Luds Church'). Ultimately, these treats are just the tip of the iceberg. Sitting on the edge of the Peak District National Park, The Hollies is prime territory for all sorts of walking, climbing, caving and more. Bring a good OS map and off you go.

Here at camping at The Hollies you are free to choose your own spot, campfires are allowed in firepits, which we have available if needed. We are a small family site, we allow dogs but they must be on leads at all times. We can accommodate tents and campervans but unfortunately no motorhomes or caravans

Great camping setup.
Great views. Fantastic sunsets. Toilet and shower block are great. Evening visits to supply firewood if required. Overall a great setup, a lot of thought has gone into it.

Camping at The Hollies
A must stay!
Great campsite. Pretty basic, but has everything you need. The owners come round on an evening with fire logs and pits. A touch on the expensive side but the logs burn well. There’s great views of The Roaches - we’d definitely stay again!

Camping at The Hollies is set in about 6 acres over 2 fields. We accept tents and campervans, we have fire pits available for a £20 cash only deposit, we only allow burning of wood bought from us, £8 a bag. We have toilets, showers, washing up facilities & allow bbqs. Camping at The Hollies is set in the Peak District with The Roaches as our backdrop, ideal for those who love to climb. We have Alton Towers about 20 minutes drive away, we also have Tittesworth Reservoir and water sport centre just down the road, with a couple of great walks, a play area for the kids and a cafe on site. Dogs are welcome here, however they must be on leads at all times, please add any pets to your booking via the 'extras' option.
Nearby attractions

The Roaches, Ramshaw Ridge and Hen Cloud form a gritstone ridge within sight of the campsite that is a perfect place for long hikes, climbing and trail running. This is the southern edge of the Peak District National Park so there’s plenty more of that in the area as well as caving and all the other treasures of the park. Just beyond the Roaches Ridge a great 80-metre chasm makes up Luds Church. It's easily accessible for the everyday hiker (there's no abseiling or caving, it's just a footpath) but it's tremendously atmospheric in any weather and well worth a visit. Buxton is a 20-minute drive away, Bakewell 30 and Chatsworth House a 40 minute drive. Head in the other direction (outside of the national park) and the thrills and spills of Alton Towers are a half-hour drive away.

Food and drink

There’s a café at the Tittesworth Reservoir, less than a mile away, and in the other direction The Three Horseshoes Inn is a good spot for a hearty dinner. The town of Leek is three miles away and has plenty more options for eating out as well as supermarkets and shops where you can pick up supplies for campsite dinners.
