Walden Ranch began with the purchase of a neighboring 20 acres. Couple that with the inspiration of Thoreau's lines and life at the real Walden Pond, the ranch has grown to nearly 300 acres and the small ranch pond has grown to a 5-acre lake with a 3-acre forest and home. Scouts, family and church groups use the site for gatherings. Available are canoes, bonfire, and exploring the ranch's 300-head cattle, llamas, poultry and wildlife.  Pitch your tent in a forest setting alongside a lake on a working cattle ranch. Watch wildlife or hike to smaller lakes on the ranch. Other animals include dogs, llamas, geese, chickens, and  horses.  The ranch is within a 20 minute drive to either Stockton or Lodi, CA and is surrounded by vineyards, orchards and pastures.  Outdoor flush toilets, sink, tables and fire ring available. Forested area is set amidst grazing lands.  This "Walden" even has willow trees slipped from Walden Pond, MA. Owner looks forward to sharing this peaceful, special spot! Pitch your tent in a forest setting alongside a lake on a working cattle ranch. 10/10 would recommend if you’re looking for a unique little spot to rest! Allen was awesome to talk to and super accommodating! It’s super serene with beautiful views. The locals (farm animal) are very friendly as well. I’ll definitely be stopping here again if I’m ever in the area!

Amazing Farm Camping Experience!
Tent · With kids ·
Alan’s farm is absolutely amazing! Took my two boys (9 and 7 yrs old) and my dog for their first camping trip and it was memorable beyond belief! Alan and his farm helper (I’m SO sorry I didn’t get your name!) are very friendly! Alan allowed us to go out on the tractor and help feed the cows (not just once, but two days in a row) - the highlight of my boys trip! We loved having all the farm dogs around, Benji was our favorite for sure! Loved being able to be up close to the alpacas, horse, Adrian the pig (make sure you keep your food up high - she ate our bag of marshmallows we left out when we walked to the pond lol), peacock, donkeys and cows! Speaking of the pond, my son and I went out on the canoe and paddle boat - both of which were fun! FYI - The animal noises at night - we joked about this because we were totally aware/prepared we were on a farm and we’d hear them…but when I say they are loud, they are LOUD! Coyotes, owls, frogs, donkeys, roosters, cows and the loudest of them all those GEESE! Haha just be prepared for a not so silent night. Overall, we absolutely LOVED Alan’s farm and will most definitely be back again soon! My boys didn’t want to leave! Highly recommend! :)

Fun Farm Camping
The location was easy to find and we had many options of where to set up. We felt extra safe surrounded by the variety of animals. It was a great view. The animals were making noise most of the night, and they are quieter during the day. One of the farm dogs played with my dogs and they all had a blast. We would come back with friends. The bathrooms are nice and stocked with TP and they are close. There was firewood available unlimited for a small fee.

This place was pure magic. I will definitely be making the 8 hour trip JUST to visit again. The animals, the trees, the pond, the kind owner, the amenities. All of it. Perfect.

A Hidden Gem of a Farm Camping Experience! if you wanted to see more visit our youtube channel (AMERSIAN CAMPERS) Our recent camping trip to this private farm was nothing short of magical. The campsite overlooked a huge pond, home to hundreds of Canadian geese, creating an incredibly serene and unique atmosphere. Right next to our site was a charming llama farm, and beyond that, a vast cow pasture stretching as far as the eye could see. One of the highlights of our stay was the warm hospitality of the farm’s owner, Alan. He not only made us feel right at home but also gave us the unforgettable opportunity to feed the cows and llamas from his tractor—an experience we will cherish forever. The farm was also home to six incredible working dogs, all friendly and playful, keeping us company throughout our stay. We were surrounded by an amazing variety of animals, from majestic peacocks to beautiful horses and more, making every moment feel special. The campsite itself was well-equipped, with plenty of firewood for a cozy bonfire, along with benches and a dining table for a comfortable outdoor experience. If you're looking for a peaceful, nature-filled getaway with unforgettable animal encounters, this farm is an absolute must-visit!
