Situated on 2 acres, the old farmhouse, where our family lives is said to be one of the very oldest houses in Albion... built in 1865! When we got the place in 2018, it was in pretty bad disrepair and the land was a a jungle of brambles, holly bush, and tons of buried trash. Pregnant and feeling brave (also very naive), we dug into loving up the land and home.
Here we are, nearly 6 years later, with a sweet little dude climbing the old plum tree, a babe in arms, a secret garden filled with all kinds of wild and cultivated edible and medicinal plants to enjoy. It makes our hearts really happy to care for this land and we love to share it with folks looking to slow down and connect with this beautiful place we get to call home.
We view ourselves as just the current stewards of this beautiful place. This was home to the flora and fauna for hundreds of thousands of years before people, then home to the Pomo people for many generations, then a slew of immigrants and homesteaders, and now us. As our motto goes, This land, home, trees, and forest animals have been here for many moons before us; it's our greatest hope to be worthy stewards to ensure its health and vitality for many more.Cozy little salvage redwood cabin looking out on giant redwoods at our sweet old homestead. Queen sized memory foam bed with cozy cotton flannel sheets, down comforter, and fluffy pillows, with extra blankets on hand. Electric kettle, little pour-over coffee set-up for the morning, lots of great old books to dig into. Outdoor shower with on-demand hot water, outdoor sink and dining area where you're welcome to set up your own cook stove. Composting toilet bathroom with sink about 10 steps from the cabin. All water is potable. Heat is plug-in electric or you're welcome to bring your own firewood for the wood stove.
The Love Shack opens out onto a redwood meadow which is communal space and you're welcome to wander and check out the giant redwood stumps, ferns, and banana slugs or make a warming fire in the fire pit dedicated to your space.
In terms of privacy, life is happening here! Our home, a long term rental + ceramic studio for our potter friend, and our seasonal (May-Oct) Hipcamp space, "Bell Tent in the Coastal Redwoods" are also on the 1.5 homestead. All are decently private from each other, but not completely secluded, and you may see us out and about on the land, working and playing with our 4 year old. This is a generally quiet and peaceful place, but not a place of total silence and solitude. We are surrounded by undeveloped forest on 3 sides of the land and our rural residential road on the border. If you have more than 2 people in your group, we'd recommend booking the Bell Tent which can house another 2 friends.
2 miles from the ocean and all kinds of activities + a great little general store (Albion Grocery) with just about everything you might need.
*Kids are welcome! They don't count toward the 2 person limit, but you will need to bring all extra bedding for them. You could comfortably fit 2 kids in addition to 2 adults.
*Pets are not welcome, unless they are a formally trained service animal. Dogs in particular have just been too disruptive to the land, the cat, the chickens, and most importantly, our sweet little kid. Thank you for understanding. If you need it, there is a wonderful kennel about 15 minutes north of us to board your pup ;-)
