Located on stellar mountain views of the lovely Eel River. The best Hipcamp on the Eel River! Currently able to host two large sites and up to 10 visitors. The Eel River is only five minutes down the road with dozens of glorious swimming holes. There is also a historic train track that runs miles along the Eel River which makes for a very majestic hike. The location is at around 1,400ft in the mountains above the glorious Eel River. There is plenty of space on this large property. The camping area includes an outdoor kitchen, compost toilet in outhouse, shaded outdoor living room and plenty of space for tents. A small covered tent is included. And a parking spot for a trailer/rv/sprinter. Kitchen has mountain well water on tap, please use conservatively. Included grill and propane ready to get your grub on. A ten minute hike up the properties own trail and you will find yourself looking over the whole beautiful Eel River valley below. No cell service in Dos Rios so save your map data before you take off. We recommend taking Hwy 162 if you are coming from the 101. Camp Guidelines - Be nice, pack it in pack it out. Bee most excellent to each other. Be kind to the land, Enjoy the birds, Keep it magical

Main Camp
Great airy location
Great airy location, and we used the already pitched tent. The propane gas stove worked nicely - after we got the propane bottle installed. Nice walk up the hill at night. We arrived later than expected, though no cell phone service so no way of connecting with host. Geisty did come shortly after we arrived - though turns out in the kitchen the propane bottle and any cooking pans where missing - Geisty got us some. There is a basic sink, outdoor tables, with protected overhangs, and various chairs/sofas scattered around. It is hot dry country, and it was one mile on a well graded dirt road to the camp site. The entrance is pretty steep, so takes a confident driver and good engine to get in - just worked with out with our Kia Niro PHEV . Geisty lives nearby. I would say plan to have everything you need, though it might be there.

Shady Site
I loved camping here! It’s the perfect place if you are very low maintenance and are looking for a tent to sleep in! Having a kitchen was wonderful and the privacy and seclusion was refreshing. The stars are also beautiful and so visible!

It was a trip full of stories to te
I liked the place. It has water, a stove, some chairs and tents in case you don't want to bring your own. There's a hot tub that you heat with firewood. So bring one if you want to take a hot bath after coming back from the river. I liked a lot of things about the place, but I have some reservations. For example, when I read the description, I got the impression that the river ran through the property, but that's not the case. To get to the closest point, we had to drive to the bridge. It took about 7 to 10 minutes. We had some surprises at night too. Keep all your food in the tent. At night, a family of deer attacked our campsite and ate all the meat, vegetables, and fruit, even the snacks. They managed to drag my cooler about 20 meters into the forest. They scattered trash everywhere. They made a mess. But maybe it was partly our fault for not taking precautions. Another surprise in the morning was a bear that showed up there. I had never seen a bear before, I thought it was great, but I know how risky it could be if it decided to come down to where we were. He was about 50 meters away from us. Save your offline map, because there was no signal for about 30 minutes before reaching the campsite. Our car didn't go up the ramp inside the property, it's a Prius, so we decided to camp with our own tent at the bottom of the property, it wasn't a problem. Anyway. It was a trip full of stories to tell. 😂 Be prepared.

Shady Site
Shady site was a decent spot for a stay and crash for the night. I appreciated having the outdoor kitchen available, and the foam mattress was quite comfy compared to my usual tent sleeping pad.

Main Camp
Awesome site close to the river!
We found this spot after our usual family camping spot was smoked out from wildfires. My family LOVED this camping spot! The proximity to the river and lots of great swimming spots was just what we needed. The site itself has just about everything you need for camping. When I read that it had a camp kitchen, I had no idea how extensive it was! There is a full propane two-burner stove, utensils, a working sink, counter space, and more. It is covered with a shade tent so you aren't too hot when you're cooking. There is a super chill place to relax with a large shade tent, couches, and tables, complete with a speaker, so all you have to do is plug in your favorite downloaded music. Geisty even brought the charging cable for the speaker since we used up the battery, which was super nice. Additionally, there are extra tents, sleeping bags, and tons of camping chairs. The spot is shady, which is nice in the heat of the day. You can really bring very little because the spot is so well-appointed. The camping area is built into a hill, which isn't an issue; it's just something to know. This site is not near cell or wifi service or other amenities. It's almost an hour to Laytonville and service, so if you are looking to be close to a town, this may not be your spot. If you are looking for a spot where you can unplug outdoors, swim, read books, play games, and generally enjoy the folks you are with- this IS your spot! I highly recommend Higher Ground!

Main Camp
Great visit to Main Camp
Great spot and setup. Directions and entry instructions were very clear. Off a very quiet road, lots of shade with room to put up tent under a large sun shade next to sofas chairs and a table. There is also a small tent already set up. Steps away is a full kitchen setup with counters, sink, water, kitchen table, and storage, under shade tents that would also keep rain off. Composting toilet is a bit up the hill, not far. It was a good place to have our dogs. A determined dog might slip under the gate, but the gate is not right next to tent site, and the road isn’t busy, so it was all good. It was a hot weekend so it was great being just a few minutes from the beach below the bridge across the Eel River, where we spent our days. Very nice place to spend some summer nights.
