HOT TUB IS CURRENTLY OFFLINE. SAUNA AND POOL ARE OPEN! The Heartwood Institute has a rich, 40 year history. Once a massage/mystic school, we are flowing into the 21st Century as the Heartwood Mountain Sanctuary. A space for contemplation, meditation, and retreat from the mundane. A venue for events, in the rugged hills of Northern California, at the heart of the Emerald Triangle. Rooms, classrooms, campsites, sauna, spa, hot tub, saline pool, community kitchen, are all available to campers. Our strawbale temple is always open as a place to pray or meditate. During summer months and for larger events we open the Lodge, with a full commercial kitchen, with incredible vegetarian food. Learn more about this land: 25 rustic campsites spread across 200 acres, in Northern California, at the heart of the Emerald Triangle.  Heartwood Mountain Sanctuary has a communal kitchen, world class sauna, spa, hot tub, and saline pool.  Meals and events in the main lodge at some times. The campsites are rough, basically a place in the woods to put your tent, but the communal facilities are luxurious.   The road getting here is the most challenging part of the whole experience.  Plenty of people live out here with Prius's — but they know how to drive dirt roads. Inexperienced drivers should have a vehicle with good ground clearance, or 4WD.  Please note that prices are per person and include access to sauna, hot tub, spa, and pool.

Peaceful solitude @ Heartwood!
Restorative and peaceful describes our stay at Heartwood Mountain Sanctuary. Our welcoming, personable host, Nathan, made us feel right at home. He gave my husband and I a rundown of the gorgeous property, and highlighted all the accessible facilities and amenities (pool, sauna, shower/bathhouse, walking trails, yoga studio, communal kitchen, laundry room, temple, and much more). During our short stay at Heartwood Mountain Sanctuary, my husband and I pitched our tent on a large campsite nestled in the forest. The camping plot was clean and came equipped with a picnic table. We were the only campers staying at Heartwood during our stay, so we were treated to a super quiet, relaxing night under the stars. The next morning, after having had a cup of freshly brewed coffee and making breakfast, my husband and I hiked around Heartwood’s beautiful grounds exploring the various structures and enjoying all the fantastic wildlife. We loved being able to hop on the trail from the campsite and head toward the pool seeing turkey, birds, and deer along the way. Thank you for sharing your peaceful paradise with us! This was truly a special, unique Hipcamp experience. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our time at Heartwood Mountain Sanctuary and sincerely appreciate the great hospitality. We would certainly recommend this Hipcamp to our closest friends.

Worth the drive!
Super isolated, serene and gorgeous. Amazing retreat site with friendly and helpful staff. Great amenities, pool, showers, restrooms, WiFi, potable water. Small store on-site. Wildlife abounds with turkeys, deer, rabbits loads of birds. Highly recommended! We will be back.

The Heartwood Institute is amazing. We spent two nights on a slow weekend where we were one of the few campers. The staff are great; friendly but happy to give you privacy if that's what you want. The facilities were spotless and the kitchen had everything you would need to cook your own meals. Due to the wildfires, campfires weren't allowed but between star gazing and sitting in the hot tub/sauna and watching the friendly deer, we didn't care. There is an beautiful straw bake and cob temple which is great for yoga, mediation, or quiet relaxation and a small shop to supply things you may have forgotten. It really is a getaway though and there's no getting out there from the 101 in much less than an hour so either bring what you need or stop by the general store halfway in to pick stuff up. (Its a well outfitted shop!) With no cell reception and limited wifi, this is the perfect place to reconnect with your partner, nature, or self. We also met some neighbors who were super friendly and generous so whether you are interested in touring some of the farms out there, or simply spending time taking walks and looking at the hillsides and wildlife, this is the place to stay.

awesome camp site with beautiful new restrooms (modern and very clean!), a kitchen for everybody's use and a nice terrace to eat or chill! AND the most amazing part is for sure the spa area with a pool and a hot tub as well as a sauna. Everything is very clean and beautifully made - especially the hot tub, where you have a nice overview over the mountains. A big plus as well: The host and the other people there were really nice and very helpful. The only thing you have to consider is that the way to get there is quite a ride and the road partly in pretty bad condition. You drive about 45 minutes when leaving the main road on a curvy road containing many holes as well as ups and downs. You have to drive very slow and it took us lots of gas. Make sure you have enough. The last part then is a pavel road.
