The Loft Glamping & Camping

12 units · Motorhomes, Tents5 acres · Kinloss, Scotland
The Loft Glamping & Camping is situated at East Grange Farm, Kinloss, Moray. It 's a working farm that has evolved over the years to include Wigwam Glamping and Camping for campervans, motorhomes and tents. A number of the old farm buildings are also perfectly appointed as venue spaces for Weddings, Events and Workshops. The "wilderness" campsite offers pitches suitable for tents and small campervans whilst the Stackyard area is suitable for motorhomes and mega tents. All motorhome pitches have electrical hook-up and we have a good number of electric tent pitches. Unfortunately we do not take bookings for caravans. Onsite, we also have Original Wigwam cabins which are wooden camping cabins (Pods) that offer all year round protection against the elements. With heating, electricity, fridge, kettle and toasters. For those wanting a bit more luxury there are also ensuite Wigwam Cabins onsite with wood fired hot tubs. We welcome families, groups, well behaved dogs and do allow campfires outside the wigwams and at pitches and can provide fire hubs on the campsite (this must be pre-arranged). The Loft Glamping & Camping looks forward to welcoming you throughout the year!

The Fauld Farm on the Isle of Mull

1 unit · Motorhome, Tent50 acres · Tobermory, Scotland
The Fauld is a small hill farm located close to Tobermory in the north-east of the stunning Isle of Mull in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland. In total, the land comprises around 150 acres - although most of this area tends to be grazed by our Highland ponies and Shetland/Cheviot sheep. In spring and summer, there are wild flowers and birds galore, and bracing fresh air is on tap all year round - as are the spectacular coastal views from the top of the hills. The farm lies within walking distance of the iconic and colourful fishing port of Tobermory, which offers a range of shops, cafes and pubs - as well as being home to the Tobermory Distillery at Ledaig. If you have a car, we can offer off-road parking for a couple of vehicles, and we also have parking space for two campervans (though we do not have water or electricity connections yet). PS: You are advised to come equipped for camping in wet conditions whatever the season - although we promise that the weather can be lovely too! We look forward to welcoming responsible, country-loving campers to The Fauld :-)

Hillside Meadows

4 units · Motorhomes, Tents5 acres · Fraserburgh, Scotland
If you wish to visit the north-east of Scotland with sandy and rocky beaches, magnificent cliffs, old lighthouses and famous whisky distilleries, Hillside Meadows is the place to stay. You can enjoy near wild camping experience provided by hosts Michal and Gosia, who are developing on site fully off-grid permaculture family farm. Don't be surprised to be welcomed to your temporary home by a wired-haired dachshund Dubby or woken up in the morning by Pablo the Cockrell. There are usually fresh quail and hen eggs available. The site is handily located just off the A981 Strichen-Memsie road. It makes the site easily accessible for camper vans and caravans owners. There might be some noise from passing traffic, but it’s hardly a distraction from your surroundings, rolling hills, open fields and woodlands. It goes without saying that our 5-acres site is ideal for self-sufficient campers. There are just a handful of pitches, well distanced from each other, tucked among the high grass meadows, which gives campers plenty of space and sense of privacy. Park up or pitch your tent. Then you can just relax and concentrate on the important stuff – like getting that campfire going! The basic facilities, including composting toilet and tap water (cold), are available on site if needed. Just 3 miles away from our site lies Fraserburgh, a little coastal town with a sandy beach, Museum of Scottish Lighthouses, as well as a range of convenience stores, shops, cafés, restaurants and bars. Within 5 miles from our site, you'll also find Waters of Philorth Nature Reserve, New Aberdour beach, Rattray old lighthouse, Strichen stone circle, Aden Country Park and more.

Camping in Craigellachie National Nature Reserve guide

Overview

Craigellachie couldn’t be easier to get to—west of Aviemore, in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, it’s easily accessible by boot and bike and only moments away from bus stops and the town’s train station. Even better, the popularity of the mountains to the east means Craigellachie rarely gets overrun by visitors, leaving its woodland trails and viewpoints tranquil and perfect for meditative hikes. Ramblers have a choice of four forest paths to follow, ranging from 0.7 to 4.4 kilometres in length, while every season brings different highlights for nature lovers and birdwatchers. In particular, the reserve is a popular hangout for peregrine falcons, who come to nest in the craggy summits.

Notable campgrounds

  1. Best for caravans: Oakwood Caravan and Camping Park is open all-year round, with plenty of facilities for campers and motorhomes.
  2. Best for privacy: Rothiemurcus Camp and Caravan Park is hidden deep with a tract of Caledonian pine, birch and juniper, with space no matter how busy it can get.
  3. Best for winter sports: Glenmore Camping is close to the snow fields of Cairngorm Mountain resort. More than 200 pitches on site and a long-time popular choice.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  • The Cairngorms get chockablock in summer. As such, some campsites insist on non-refundable deposits to secure bookings. Full payment can also be required up to six weeks prior to arrival.
  • Commonly, the bulk of campers arrive in the late afternoon or evening. Early arrival is recommended for the most attractive pitches.
  • The Cairngorms offer some of Scotland’s best wild camping spots. Make sure you abide by the Scottish Outdoor Access Code, keeping the Cairngorms as clean as you found them.

When to go

One of the largest swathes of birch woodlands in Strathspey, this terrain is a joy to discover at any time of year. Highlights abound, particularly from March to May, which is best for woodland blooms, and June to early September, when the forests come alive with butterflies and dragonflies. In winter, birches reflect the mood of the coldest season, with leaves replaced by frosted boughs and snow-laden branches. For sensational, Alpine-style panoramas, visit from January to February.

Know before you go

  • There are no toilet facilities in the reserve. The closest public toilets are in the centre of nearby Aviemore.
  • The reserve’s entrance is at Aviemore Youth Hostel, which is also home to the reserve’s car park, a visitor hub, and a webcam showing live footage from a peregrine nest.
  • Motorhomes and caravans are prohibited from parking in the hostel car park overnight.
