We are lucky enough to have a wide variety of wildlife on our farm including tawny and barn owls, deer, buzzards, pheasants, swallows, bullfinches, fieldfares and numerous bats, butterflies and beetles! This means that (apart from our bulls, rams and boars which have to be bought in to prevent in-breeding) all of our animals are born on the farm. They stay with their mothers’ as long as possible growing well on their mothers’ milk and our beautiful grass. Apart from our pigs, all of our animals are only fed grass from the farm or hay (from our species rich hay meadows) in winter. We believe this is more sustainable, gives us a minimal carbon footprint and provides our animals with the best possible lives.

Blaennantygroes Farm is fifteen acres of peaceful uplands which includes a four acres broadlleaf wood and a field which is part of a large Site of Special Scientific Interest. Our elevated position gives a spectacular view across the valley, and behind is forestry and open countryside leading to the top station of Bike Park Wales. We are 100 metres from the mouth of the closed Merthyr Tunnel, hence we are known locally as 'Tunnel Farm'. The line of the disused track now proves a level walk through woodland which starts at the bottom of our drive and continues past the Rhoswenallt Inn, 1 mile, and on to Llwydcoed, a further 2 miles.

The space The hut has sweeping countryside views and is perfect for a peaceful and relaxing break! Inside there is a king sized hybrid mattress bed, seating area with a fold up table for meal times or relaxing, a fully equipped kitchen with all utensils & crockery, integrated fridge with small freezer, heating with Nest controlled thermostat, induction hob, sink and draining tray. There is also a large en-suite with a rainfall shower. Luxury toiletries are provided along with towels and themed bed linen. You will also have 1 extra towel per person for use with the hot tub. Jars of tea, coffee and sugar are available in the kitchen along with a couple of milk sachets. The garden is fully enclosed with a gravel and lawned area, table & seating, large firepit/BBQ and a parasol for those sunnier days! The fire pit is set up with racks, pans and all the equipment needed to cook with! The large hot tub with lights and jets is just to the side of the seating area. The hot tub is fully undercover, making it safe to use in all weathers! There is also enough space for undercover seating. There is a manual provided in the hut which features local attractions and there is a private landscaped parking area located just at the back of the hut. There is lots to do nearby and something for every and those a little further afield, local supermarkets, cafes, pubs and restaurants. The site is also located on the Leicestershire Round walking route with at least 5 off road walks commencing within 400 yards of the site. Check in information, along with directions to the site are messaged 48 hours prior to arrival. Guest access Secure off road parking, waste bin, outdoor tap and hose, recycling bins, enclosed garden, hot tub and seating area, large fire pit and shepherds hut with en-suite. Other things to note Tip- it can get quite dark at night, therefore it is advisable to bring a torch. A full set of towels is provided, including a hot tub towel. In Herefordshire near the Welsh border, Ross-on-Wye is perched on the Wye River within the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). With the English counties of Herefordshire and Gloucestershire on one side and the Welsh county of Monmouthshire on the other, campers staying in Ross-on-Wye have many options for getting outdoors and enjoying the natural beauty in this part of England and Wales. Caravan parks can be found around town, while simple tent sites, cabins, and glamping opportunities dot the surrounding regions.

Where to go

Wye Valley AONB

Spanning the border into both England and Wales, the Wye Valley AONB is an area of limestone gorges, woodlands, hillforts, castles, and abbeys, as well as wildlife. Ross-on-Wye falls within the English part of the region and is a good base for canoeing, cycling, paddle boarding, horse riding, hiking, and fishing adventures up and down the valley. While Ross-on-Wye has limited camping options, there are many more throughout the AONB.

Malvern Hills AONB

In southwest Worcestershire, northeast of Ross-on-Wye, this popular natural area combines dramatic hills and pastoral countryside. At 1,394 feet, the highest point in the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is the Worcestershire Beacon. Climb this on a clear day to see across to the Cotswolds and into Wales. You can visit on a day trip from Ross-on-Wye or stay in and around the AONB at your choice of campsites, caravan parks, farm cottages, and glamping sites.

Brecon Beacons National Park

Also known in Welsh as Bannau Brycheiniog, this mountainous national park in Wales is not far west of Ross-on-Wye. Hiking and climbing are especially popular, and the park contains several of Wales’ highest mountains, including the tallest mountain in South Wales, the 2,907-foot Pen y Fan. There are many places to camp within and around the park, although wild camping is only permitted with permission from landowners.

When to go

Summer is the best time to visit Ross-on-Wye, as this is when the weather is most suitable for outdoor activities and tent camping. There are plenty of cultural attractions and outdoor activities to enjoy in cooler weather too, so check out cabins, caravan hires, and glamping options outside of summer.
