Family camping in Somerset

·

Whether it’s camping or glamping you go for, the wealth of family-friendly activities in Somerset makes it a great place to take the kids on holiday. The chance to paddle in the sea, build sandcastles on the beach, visit farms, and discover the underground world at Wookey Hole are all great experiences for kids. Throw camping into the mix, and it’ll be holiday heaven. Children love the freedom of camping with the chance to run around outdoors, make new friends, and toast marshmallows on the campfire. And all that fresh air can make them pretty sleepy—which may make for relaxing, adults-only evenings and a great night’s sleep all round…if you’re lucky.

Somerset’s family-friendly campsites offer all this and more. If your children love animals, you might like to choose a site on a working farm or a smallholding where the chance to see or even feed the animals will be an added treat. At some woodland campsites, den-building is encouraged, while meadow campsites may be perfect for a kick-about.

We are a family run farm situated in the beautiful Frome valley. The farm has a range of interests from the traditional Jersey milking cows to a community of workshops used by local craftsmen. The cafe serves cream teas from Easter to the end of September and pizzas are sold in evenings during the summer months. Ours is a small family run camp site with the River Frome on one side, next to the medieval buildings of Stowford Farm. The river is suitable for fishing, boating, swimming and paddling. Historic Bradford-on-Avon is only a 5 minute drive and the City of Bath 15 minutes. For those who enjoy more rural pleasures, 200 metres from the campsite Farleigh Hungerford boasts the only river swimming club in the country, and you can become an instant member for a very small fee.
