Our beautiful handmade yurt is set amongst an ancient orchard on an idyllic smallholding, nestled between the Kent Downs AONB and Kent's spectacular coastline. The smallholding itself is a slice of rural Kent with free-range chickens just a stone’s throw away, you’ll soon be making some fairly unique friends. We have such a great location, Canterbury is just 10 minutes drive away and the trendy coastal town of Whitstable can be reached within 20 minutes. Berty the yurty is 5 metres in diameter and comfortably sleeps 2 adults and an infant. Inside Berty you'll find a super comfy double bed, tea and coffee making facilities, a cracking little wood burning stove, table and two chairs and a mini-fridge to keep those all important beverages ice cold. We'll make sure there are some essential local food items from the farm (bread, eggs, milk, butter) waiting for you when you arrive. Outside you an outdoor kitchen space to cook, outdoor patio eating area, camp fire, as well as a composting toilet, hot shower and washing up facilities adjacent to Berty, which are exclusively for your use. Berty is tucked away at the far end of the smallholding on the edge of a 20 acre accessible ancient woodland with bluebells flowering in the months of April & May. The small holding is home to free range chickens and other animals. Eggs are complimentary and we're more than happy to arrange for you to collect them yourself if you're in a 'hunter/gatherer' sort of mood as well as a loaf of bread, milk, butter and apple juice. Our rural location is truly fantastic! You'll instantly feel the stresses and strains of everyday life disappear as you soak up the delightful Kent countryside and adjacent ancient woodland. The picturesque Stour valley is just down the road, Canterbury and it's cathedral are only 10 mins away and Kent's extensive coastline can be reached in less than 20 mins. Some delightful pubs and restaurants can be found in Canterbury, and you are spoilt for choice when it comes to top quality country pubs in the local area.

Wethersfield Eco Project is the historic parkland of Wethersfield Manor. Veteren Oaks and Sequoia Grace the woodland hillside with badgers and foxes in the sandy hills, buzzards and kites soaring the ponds full of dragonfly. Great space for a family or romantic getaway or larger group party. If you are a group under 10 people please expect to share the space with others but we'll ensure you have your own private area! Plenty of space where you’re pretty much left to your own devices. Portaloo in close proximity which was immaculate. You can pick your own pitch either in the wood, the field or next to the lake. We absolutely loved it. A great place to sit round the fire pit, listen to music, sink a beer and reminisce the good times. I found it the perfect place to decompress and forget the outside world! Took paddle boards and a kayak for a day down at Paper Mill Lock and it was perfect. Well worth a visit. £5 for all day parking, tea room and ice cream stall. The place was buzzing!! Tim’s land was the perfect base camp. Bravo Tim!!

Great campsite, lots of people around but not too busy. Charging area and freezer really useful. Clean toilets and well maintained. The showers were lovely. Peaceful location, beautiful countryside and lots of wildlife sounds after dark. The Broads close by and beach around half an hour away.

Awesome to be able to forage your own wood and have a fire pretty much anywhere you like. Tim was very friendly and laid back. A few decent options to pitchup in a field or woods. Heads up no wild swimming there any more as stream has silted up but is still a natural spring there though and some incredbile old oak trees. Tim recommend the River Stour as a paddleboarding spot which was great and 30mins ish drive away. Subbury, henny or Bures all good for getting on the river if you that way inclined

Really good visit with everything that we needed. Very clean showers and basins. Great to be able to plug in phones to charge and freeze ice blocks in the communal area. Wheel barrows to transport your belongings from vehicle to pitch - really well though out. Bernie is very welcoming and a really great campsite.

We've just spent the most wonderful three days at The Old Vicarage Campsite, and we’re already planning our next visit. This place is a hidden gem – so peaceful, spacious, and beautifully laid-back. There’s plenty of room for kids to run free and explore safely, which made the whole stay feel relaxed and easy. The campfires in the evening were a real highlight – toasting marshmallows as the sun went down made for perfect family memories. The facilities are great too – the showers were lovely and warm, and the compost loos were clean and well looked after. Everything about this site feels thoughtful and natural, without losing comfort. If you're looking for a traditional camping experience with all the right touches and a lovely welcoming feel, we couldn’t recommend this place more. Thank you, Old Vicarage – we loved every minute!

Lovely place. Quiet, clean facilities and good signage. Shower hot. Space to wash up plates and drinking water available. Short walk to garden centre and great view of fields and sunset. Handy wheelbarrows to transport baggage. Would stay again especially for such a good price.

4 nights at Berty the yurty

Berty the Yurty is an amazing set up; the terrace area with the outside kitchen is gorgeous and where I spent most of my time, listening to birds and watching butterflies dance around wild flowers. Seating is well provided for with reclining wooden chairs (i don’t know the proper name for them) and a metal table and chairs which stay remarkably cool in the shade. Hand sanitizer provided around the place and in the composting toilet for use before moving outside and across to the sink for a proper handwashing is just *chefs kiss* I don’t think that there is anything that hasn’t been thought of and provided for an awesome yurting experience here; and if you need anything then George and his team are very responsive via messaging (and I expect by phone and in person for the less shy) to bring more sawdust for the toilet, or eggs and apple juice from the farm that day. If you have the opportunity to go then do! I’m so glad I did!

A really lovely campsite with great, clean facilities. We had 3 perfect nights with our 3 year old daughter. Very peaceful field with lots of wildflowers and spacious pitches. Joe was super helpful and friendly when we arrived, too.

This was our first trip in our new camper van and my first ever proper camping experience. It could not have been lovelier, surrounded by wild flower meadows, butterflies, bees and a proud black bird we had the most perfect stay. The campsite is so well maintained, friendly and in a fab location, we would not hesitate to recommend and will most definitely be back.

Lovely little campsite in easy reach of lots of tourist attractions and great beaches being just a few minutes from the A47. The facilities are basic but well thought out and we never felt like there was anything lacking. I’d definitely recommend the Old Vicarage for people who like a back to basics camping experience in a nice secluded rural setting.

We Stayed in a beautiful yurt nestled near the forest, located on a charming farm. Enjoyed fresh air, peace and quiet, and cozy comforts. Woke up to the scent of nature and started our day with our delicious homemade apple juice and fresh free-range eggs. Lovely site with everything you need. There are a variety of pitch areas, some in more open field, some sheltered by trees and some in the woodland area. Some of the pitches in the open field are a little close together so pick a quieter weekend or arrive early if you’re after more privacy. This was in spring when the grassy meadow sections were still short though. Washing drum fire pits were brilliant. Showers decent and owners very friendly.

We loved the campsite! It was quiet and rural, and within easy reach of all the lovely beaches of Suffolk. Joe was very welcoming and really helpful wit my lots of recommendations of what to do, good pubs and nice walks. The facilities were basic, but that suited us fine.

Weekend Trip to Berty the yurty

We had an excellent stay at Berty the Yurty. As we stayed in Dec, even the wood burner was on for our arrival and Roy kindly met us to show us around. The facilities are impressive given the outdoor nature of the experience and it really is a chance to unwind and disconnect for a few days. The fresh eggs, sourdough, milk and apple juice were a lovely touch and Roy was very helpful when we needed the chopped wood topping up! Thank you for a wonderful stay!
