Yes the park is lovely. The long unspoiled beach is a gem. So are the estuaries and wetlands. The camping, however, is a moneymaker that the parks dept uses to fund statewide operations. It stays full of RVs, all densely situated. No fires. For gulf coast camping more attuned to the outdoors, try big lagoon over the state line into Florida. It's still crowded, just not so bad. Plus without a pool it attracts a crunchier crowd. For even greater isolation, you can go to Perdido Point but you will have to pack out and there's nothing but dunes and water.
