I am a beekeeper and a bit of a wild person. One day, I hope to develop this place into a beautiful self sustaining farm and home for all my bees and outdoor retreat for the peoples. Learn more about this land: Welcome to a great wide open desert retreat. Do as you please! No one is going to bother you. Let the animals loose, roll out the off road vehicles, ride bikes, and build a fire and enjoy that peaceful good outdoor life.  The old Spanish trail can be found nearby for hiking and/or biking and there are mountains and cool wildlife all around in the valley. The stars all pop completely present with no light pollution to spoil them.  Additionally, Southern Utah has so many other trails and beautiful places all over in almost any direction. Zion National Park is only a little over an hour drive away down I-15. I highly recommend Kanarraville Falls as well, as it's at most only 30 minutes away. *** Getting to the property: It is directly off of the "main" road which consists of a well kept wide dirt road. The GPS location will guide you straight there to an intersecting road with a stop sign called 1200 E which runs south the "main" road/4800 N/AKA Antelope Springs Rd. At this intersection, there is a trail running north marked with an orange post for fiber cable. That trail and road marks the bottom left corner of the property if you're facing north. Follow the trail and find your way anywhere on the right side, there are already some campsites made up, but you are also welcome to make your own to your hearts desire. Be mindful of your vehicle, cars can drive the trail but there is always a risk of getting stuck. You can also park on the main road as you are already at the property anyway and can just walk in a little ways to set up your camp. **It's important to be aware of any fire warnings for Iron County, Utah. Do a Google search for fire threats and it should be the first thing you see. Most of the time, large bonfires will be highly discouraged. Use good judgment when building a fire of any size.  *Cedar City is a straight shot East if you need any medical attention.

The best camping in Cathedral Gorge State Park, NV guide

Overview

About

One of Nevada’s original four state parks, southeast Nevada’s Cathedral Gorge State Park offers an otherworldly landscape of slot canyons, cave-like formations, towering spires, and hoodoos, formed initially by volcanic activity and shaped by erosion in the soft bentonite clay. Spanning nearly 1,600 acres, the park offers several easy hiking trails through the canyons and caves and to sweeping overlooks, and is home to a variety of wildlife. The surreal landscape offers fantastic opportunities for photographers, and the incredibly dark night skies are a draw for stargazers. There’s one developed campground inside the park, with campsites for tent and RV campers, along with water, flush toilets, and showers year-round.

Notable campgrounds

The Cathedral Gorge Campground offers 22 sites for tent and RV campers.

  • Best for RV campers: The campground offers sites with electric hookups. Water is also available, though not at each site.
  • Best for last minute campers: Two overflow camping areas are available, with one near the campground and one near the slot canyons.
  • Best for groups: One group area offers space for groups to overnight, and can be reserved in advance.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. Arrive early in the day, especially during peak periods, since all campsites in the campground are first-come first-serve. Also check the overflow camping areas.
  2. If your travel plans are flexible, try visiting during off-peak and non-holiday times and during the week.
  3. If you’re traveling with a group, you can make reservations for overnight accommodations in the group area.

When to go

Spring and fall are the best times to visit Cathedral Gorge State Park, and offer the most pleasant weather. Summers can get hot, and with limited shade, it can be dangerous to be active during the heat of the day. Be careful when visiting after rainfall and snow, as the terrain can get covered with heavy mud. At 5,000 feet in elevation, winters can be quite cold. Visit in September for the Dutch Oven Cook-Off and May and Spring for the Nevada Astronomical Society star parties.

Know before you go

  • Bring everything you need with you, as there are limited amenities available in the park.
  • Wear sturdy shoes and be careful where you step, as the ground can be soft with holes. Always stay on trails.
  • Wear sun protection, even in winter, as there’s limited shade in the park. Also be sure to drink plenty of water when exploring.
  • Camp only in designated camping areas, and only light fires in provided fire rings and grills.
  • Pets are welcome but must be kept on a leash less than six feet in length.
