We initially were going to be snowbirds and make this our winter vacation home. After much thought and many winters in PA, we decided to sell our home in PA and make the move south. It was a difficult decision to leave our family, friends and what was comfortable to us. About 3 years after our move, our neighbor asked if we were interested in his property. My husband Jeff and I discussed it and thought it would be a great idea to have a little more land. To make a long story short, that land somehow became Paradise Park River Retreat. My husband and I love this area and wanted to share it with other people who love being outdoors. We hope you'll come and visit Old Pine Landing and see the beauty and uniqueness that our little piece of paradise has to offer.

Over 500 organic volunteers from around the world have lived and worked at the farm so we are used to creating an atmosphere of community and sustainable living.  We have cleared tent camping lots for Hip Campers in front of the on-property lake with easy access to swimming and fishing. There are two solar shower stalls with hot water powered by the sun. It is specifically built to overlook the main blueberry field and peach grove. Stunning views at sunset. An outhouse / composting toilet is currently under construction with the rain water collection system now complete. In the meantime a portable toilet is provided.  A potable water station is available and built from re-purposed materials and wood harvested locally. We are a working farm. We supply every Lucky's Market location with fresh turmeric and a host of stores with our blueberries. We also have an active u-pick program during the blueberry and peach harvests (late March to early June) that is available to Hip Campers. There are multiple springs within 30 miles in various directions - some of them of First Magnitude volume. Ichetucknee Springs offers excellent river rafting. Ginnie Springs offers world class underwater cave diving -PADI license required. Manatee Springs and Fanning Springs consistently offer up close sightings of Manatees without the crowds of Crystal River. There is also a boat launch on the Suwannee River just minutes from the farm for boating, skiing and fishing. Bob's River Place is minutes away.The Gulf of Mexico is just 40 miles away. Scalloping season begins June 15 this year and runs to September. Oyster season lasts all winter. We purchased our 3.39 acres two years ago and all that was on it was a RV and lots of pine trees, palmettos, woods and a small pond in the front of the property.  Over those two years we have turned it into our little piece of heaven.  We've added two more RV hookups which our son parked his camper on one.  We built a fully furnished cook shed and on the back side of it we have an enclosed fish cleaning area.  The cook shed also has an enclosed eating area.  In addition, we build a full size bath house / laundry room for the convenience of our campers.  We cleared out the back of our property and had a large fish pond dug and it is actually spring fed.  We have stocked it with all kinds of fish.  We have a dock that goes out to the pond and you can stand and feed the fish.  If you like to fish you can catch and release.  There is also a table and chairs out next to it if you want to sit and relax.Learn more about this land:Quiet 3.39 acres with a RV hookup, two ponds, a separate bathhouse/laundry room on the premises in addition to a cook shed with grills and cookers (propane included) along with fish cleaning station. We have a fire pit available to use (wood included). We're located approximately a mile from the boat ramp and Roy's restaurant where you can enjoy beautiful sunsets. Keaton Beach is just 17 miles from us which has a nice little beach and beautiful scenery.

Super quiet and very relaxing spot. I stayed 2-3 weeks. Great for my dog and me. My only complaints would be. No mailbox and no place for trash. There is a small trash can onsite but trash man doesn't come down that road (no one comes down that road really...but, its nice like that) therr several dumpsters in town to use. No problem. If you want privacy and just need the basics, it's a great spot. I didn't fish or use the canal but it is full of wildlife from all types of birds, wild boar, coons, crabs and fish of some sort. Kinda neat

6 nights at Big Oak Farm 🌳🐴🐕

This is a nice place. We did 4 nights there. Hitting Crystal River, Rainbow River and other spots. Lots of things within 30-45 minutes. It’s a beautiful area with nice trees. One of the pigs enjoyed saying hi. Might have been some homemade blueberry muffins that he liked. The language does make it seem like they have 2 sites around the property and that you have a spot alone, or I just assumed. It is a large shared area for 2. Lots of space but shared. The dog run and disc golf area is large too. Power worked and I have a car freezer so that was helpful, water poured well, and an incredibly fair price. PI tent camped. It’s a VERY sandy area. Dewey mornings got a little messy. The road is a little busier than I thought it would be but still not bad. Couple likely school kids racing back and forth one of the nights. Electric hook up and water worked well, I have a car freezer to plug in and that was necessity. Jessica was responsive and helpful. Met her husband upon arrival, nice guy, even offered to hit the area with a tractor to level it. Her son made a firewood delivery for us as well. I arrived a day late for reservation, and on Christmas and they were very accommodating. The tent zone is a little iffy if it were to rain a lot. The good spots are close to road and away from it are on a downhill slope. Imagine the sand drains well but pouring water out of cooler it ran down hill and I could see getting puddled on a bad day. But beautiful place. Chill environment.

Simple setup, got in late, didn't have to worry about disrupting other campers. Some ruts in short road, Pacifica did alright though. Good communication with host💮 kinda odd being in opening but was a last minute accommodation I was grateful for, quiet there too.

Weekend Trip to Camp Gilchrist

10/10 experience! My husband and I got married on Friday and headed straight to John’s campsite that very night - it was the perfect way to begin our new chapter together. We’re so grateful and appreciative to have spent such a special weekend in such a beautiful place. The campsite is wonderfully remote, private, and peaceful, making the entire experience truly exceptional. The weather was perfect, the skies were clear, and the night sky was absolutely stunning, filled with stars and even shooting stars stretching across the horizon. It felt like camping inside a planetarium! An unforgettable experience that we will cherish forever.

The site was very secluded and quiet. The host met us at the gate and directed us on where to park. The road was very soft dirt but we got into a fairly flat area. They have 30 and 50 amp extension cords to plug into and water hook ups. They have a disc golf basket in a field with discs to use. Their dog is super friendly and the emu came up pretty close to us.

1 night at Neal’s Nest

We stayed at Neal's Nest twice in the past month, as a stopover on our way to visit family in Georgia. Because we were several family members traveling together, we rented an RV site as well as the little cottage. We felt like our host, Tina, has created a really lovely little camping spot. It's quiet, clean, and she's added so many things to make one's stay enjoyable - from the sensor light that comes on at the gate, to the inviting fire pit and grill area, to the volleyball net. The cottage was probably a shed in a former life, but she has really made it a guest cottage. The bed was comfortable, the shower was large and had plenty of hot water, and everything was spotless. We enjoyed having a peaceful cup of coffee on the cottage porch in the morning. We'll definitely be staying here again.

I loved staying here! The cabin was excellent and the property is beautiful. You can tell a lot of work was put into this property. We had an excellent time here with our dog and close by to some cool hikes and a nature drive near the Suwannee River. A great place to escape and have a few beers and smores.

Stroll the boardwalk in Florida’s Manatee Springs State Park to take in sights of “trees with knees” in the namesake first-magnitude spring, which pumps out as much as 150 million gallons of water a day. The clear waters of the spring run eventually join the tea-stained Suwannee River, offering scenic spots for kayaking, swimming, and fishing along the way. You might even spot cave divers–-or join them! During cool weather, manatees visit the park. Over eight miles of biking and hiking trails meander through cypress swamps and around sinkhole ponds. A camping area offers sites for tents and RVs. Glamping rentals are also available.

Best for glampers: Manatee Springs Campground’s glampsites offer fully furnished glamping tents, which include a bed, coffee maker, fire pit and stylish furnishings.
Best for RVers: Manatee Springs Campground’s Magnolia 1 loop has full hookups.
Best for tent camping: Manatee Springs Campground’s Hickory and Magnolia 1 loops have several designated tent-only sites.

Tips for snagging a campsite

Reservations for may be made on the Florida State Parks website or by phoning 800-326-3521.
Florida residents can make campsite reservations 11 months in advance, while non-residents can make reservations 10 months in advance.
Advanced reservations are recommended for weekends and holidays.
Most sites have water and electric hookups, with select sites offering full hookups.
A dump station is available.
Campers with RVs longer than 40 feet may be limited to select sites or may not find accessible sites. Check with the campground for full details.

When to go

The best time to visit for manatee sightings is winter, when the spring waters attract these popular sea cows. Winters are generally pleasant and good for outdoor recreation year round, with daily highs in the 60s and 70s. While lows may dip into the 30s, freezing temperatures are rare. The rest of the year offers nice weather in fall and spring, while summer is often hot and humid, with the likelihood of rain and thunderstorms.

Know before you go

Recreational opportunities include snorkeling, scuba diving, wildlife viewing, cave diving, paddling, and more.
The park’s trail system connects to the greater 32-mile Nature Coast State Trail.
Park ranger programs are free and offered seasonably.
Though swimming in the clear spring waters is generally considered safe since alligators prefer murkier waters, alligator sightings are not out of the question in the waters and in other areas of the park.
Take a kayak tour from Fanning Springs State Park to Manatee State Park along the Suwannee River to explore more of the region’s flora and fauna.
The boardwalk and swimming area may close when the Suwannee River floods.

Manatee Springs Campground

There are alligators in the river, but a rope marks their highest ascent in any year. (Do you trust a rope?) Incredible clear water flows from the spring, where swimming is popular. Shaded campground. Nice walk out along the path to the Sewanee River.

Manatee Springs is the perfect campground for a family outing. With numerous sites being located near the springs it makes for a perfect diving/snorkeling destination. The park offers various hiking trails as well.
