Comfortable shepherd's hut and yurt glamping a stone's throw from the beaches (and walking) of the Pembrokeshire coast

Rustic and back-to-basics, there was a simple charm to Becks Bay Camping when it first opened in 2006. It was a natural next step for friendly owner, Tom, though, to branch out in the prevailing years and add a cluster of secluded glamping options too. Now the enviable meadow, set just back from the Pembrokeshire cliffs, is home to furnished bell tents, a new, spacious yurt and, in a separate and private area, a luxury shepherd's hut for couples. It may not sound as back-to-basics as it once was but it retains that homespun charm and, if you don't fancy camping, it's the perfect way to enjoy that same, oh so special, seaside location.

The real star of the show is the Frankshore Shepherd’s Hut, an abode that, despite its traditional roots, really is a far cry from camping of old. Complete with electricity, a proper bed and en suite bathroom, it’s almost a self-catered cottage in miniature, housed within the quaint, corrugated cladding of a shepherd’s cabin. There are gas hobs for cooking, a heater for your towels and, of course, a wood-burning stove, so you can shelter yourself away if the weather turns and listen to the rain tap tap tapping on the roof top. Tastefully decorated and furnished, it’s a wonderfully cosy retreat.

It’s the priceless location of it all that's the real draw though. Even as your drive here, passing through the colourful old harbour town of Tenby, the scenery of the Pembrokeshire coast stands out. Tucked beyond the roads and across a meadow, Becks Bay Glamping can feel rather cut-off and secluded, yet wander back across the fields and glampers can quickly connect up to the famous Pembrokeshire Coast Path, leading in well worn twists and turns between the coves and beaches that mark this landscape out. It’s not long before you’re stumbling across Tenby’s ancient stone castle, Tudor merchant’s house and pretty harbour beach. A lick of ice-cream is a deserved reward.

While there’s space for a toddler and cots are available by request, the hut is best suited as a couple’s retreat for those who enjoy some extra comforts. The bell tents, meanwhile, can sleep four and the yurt a family of five and the whole site is small and spread out so you always have ample space. Secluded and serene, while remaining accessible, it pulls of the great feat of offering one of the best locations in popular Pembrokeshire while still allowing you to escape the summer crowds. Bliss.

'Fresh West' Spacious 6m Bell Tent
Exceeded our expectations.
Beautiful site, quiet location. Everything has been carefully considered to meet both your needs as a visitor and the needs of the environment to remain unspoilt. Everything was provided or available for our stay. The tent was great, comfortable beds, clean and well equipped, especially appreciated the two USB ports for phone charging. Lovely having the fire pit and a bag of logs and kindling waiting for us. Kitchen area was useful and well equipped. Toilets and showers clean and plentiful hot water. Recycling area has been well thought out and second to none. Didn’t use the pizza oven but a lovely touch to have it available. Saw the host at the start and end of our stay and he was helpful and informative. Recommend to anyone looking to reconnect with family and nature.

Frankshore Shepherds Hut
Beautiful Glamping spot
Beautiful spot, perfect access to the cost path. Shepards hut was converted to a high standard and great thoughtful touches. Great to have all the animals around in the surrounding fields. The cafe on site is very popular and served great food. Lucky with amazing sunny weather.

Our stay in the shepherd’s hut was a great break and really took us away from it all. We loved cooking on the camp fire and looking at the clear skies and stars. During the storms, the hut was secure and the wood burner was almost too hot - we had a plentiful supply of fuel. We really enjoyed cooking from Simply Seafood in Tenby and found there was just the right equipment. Comfortable bed and lovely bedding!

We’ve just had a lovely week at Beck’s Bay. The bell tents are fab. Everything you need, warm, dry and spacious. Nice hot showers. Space to cook undercover if it rains - which it did!! A really well thought out campsite. Brilliant to be able to have campfires in the cooler evenings. We loved it and would definitely come again.

We loved staying at Becks Bay. We chose one of their glamping bell tents which meant we could easily get there by train. It was set up with everything we needed and my daughter loved the novelty of having a bed inside the tent. The location is amazing, just off the coastal path with bags of room to run around and play frisbee in. The solar powered facilities were lovely. Best of all was the farm shop and cafe which did amazing breakfasts. We would definitely stay here again- I’m plotting to go back with our own tent.

Becks Bay Glamping is set next to an isolated cove just 1-mile West of Tenby’s South Beach and a 15-minute walk to the stunning Lydstep Bay. We are passionate about providing a perfect place to camp for a real welsh adventure holiday. We welcome Glampers, Campers, campervans and trailer tents. We also welcome children, and dogs and campfires. We have flushing toilets and lovely hot showers. We also have a Farm shop and café selling a wide range of local products. At the farm we have sheep, pigs, cows and chickens that you are welcome to feed. Glamping comes with a real double bed, fully furnished and all the essential items required for a fantasticly wild camping adventure, but made super easy :)
Nearby attractions

The hut, yurt and bell tents have direct access to the Pembrokeshire Coast path – simply stroll across the meadow and cross the road to where it passes on the far side. From here you can easily connect to some of the best beaches on the Manorbier peninsular, with secluded sandy beaches both east and west of the main surf beach. Precipe and Swan Lake Bay are particular local favourites. Nearby Tenby; is an excellent old walled town to visit, with a harbour and expansive beaches at low tide. There are plenty of treats on the waterfront, too, with fish and chippies, ice-cream and more to be had.

Food and drink

Stroll across the meadow to Bubbleton Farm Shop & Café (07929 334826) on site and a further 15 minutes to Waves Italian restaurant (01834 870085) or the Lydstep Tavern (01834 871521) just beyond. The bright blue painted Cross Inn (01834 844665) in Penally is also a top choice – home to a fantastic, traditional, seaside pub atmosphere – while The Plantagenet (01834 842350) in Tenby is a high-end option set in a romantic 10th century building – the oldest in town.
