Glamping at the foot of the Preseli Hills in the Pembrokeshire National Park

On the edge of the Pembrokeshire National Park and the Preseli Hills are the two glamping boltholes of Aros yn Pentre Glas. This homestead in the hills is a place where nature and nurture combine to make a lovely place to stay. It’s nature that sets the scene with the 368-metre peak of Foel Dyrch always in view, a wild garden to explore and red kites soaring overhead. The nurturing touch is brought by mother-daughter hosts Alice and Gilly. They’ve created comfortable and cosy boltholes out of a wooden cabin and a converted Bedford bus. They welcome you here and also offer fresh veg from their garden and the chance to practice yoga in their studio on site.

Y Caban Bach is the smallest of the accommodation and a great-value place to stay. It’s a timber cabin in the style of a shepherd’s hut with a curved roof but no wheels. Inside, it’s a heated, timber-clad bedroom. Outside, it has a deck, outdoor seating, a kitchen shed and its own compost loo. The converted bus offers the same amenities on a larger scale. This 1968 Bedford Plaxton Panorama combines bedroom, kitchen and living room for up to four. It’s permanently parked under a pitched-roof with a log burner to keep things toasty inside. Whichever you choose to stay in, if you’re here in summer, you’ll have access to the cow shed games room where there are sofas and games tables. And whenever you’re here, you are only steps away from a bridleway leading up Foel Dyrch.

Conquering this peak in the Preselis is highly recommended during your stay here and if you’ve got your hiking boots, there’s plenty more walking to do. You’re at the southern end of the Preseli Hills and the eastern reaches of the Pembrokeshire National Park so there’s loads of outdoor adventures. In addition to walking, there’s cycling, paddleboarding and kayaking at Llys y Fran reservoir, a 20-minute drive away. The Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion coast is just a little further than that.

I had a really lovely time away. Despite staying on a very windy weekend, I managed to stay cosy and warm inside the van. Beautiful views. Very welcoming hosts.

Peaceful, idyllic, wild, private, in the National Park, surrounded by nature and oodles of wildlife! The property sits at the very end of a half a mile long track which is very bumpy and unsuitable for any lowered or sports style cars, but still accessible as we drive up and down every day, just very slowly! We have 5.5 acres in total, the glamping area is roughly half an acre but there's plenty more to explore with wild gardens, a yoga shed, a stream and a whole mountain (Foel Dyrch) for you to roam. The water here is spring fed and wonderful, the air as fresh as you can imagine! We live on the property so we are available should you need anything but you can ensure that if you want privacy then you have it! We can offer yoga sessions for up to two people, lasting just over an hour and tailored to your level and needs. Also we offer Kinesiology which is an holistic therapy working with energy healing to get the body back into balance. **There are cats, dogs, chickens and ducks here all part of our family so we absolutely CANNOT have pets, very sorry.
Nearby attractions

Your hosts at Aros yn Pentre Glas offer yoga sessions and kinesiology (a holistic therapy) in their on site studio (must be booked in advance). A bridleway which leads to the summit of Foel Dyrch passes through the farm and right past both accommodations so you can be out on a walk straight away. The Preseli Hills are full of standing stones, burial chambers and other earthworks. It’s from here that the bluestones of Stonehenge were quarried and if you are interested in history, you might be interested to visit Castell Henllys, a reconstructed Iron Age village (11 miles). The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, of course, offers plenty more options for walking including the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, the northern end of which is in the village of St Dogmaels (16 miles). This is also where you’ll find one of the closest beaches, Poppit Sands and from where you can join dolphin-watching boat trips. There’s more of those in the larger coastal town of Newport (15 miles) and the chance to see dolphins from the shore at Mwnt (18 miles) on Cardigan Bay. For inland water and watersports, Llys y Fran Reservoir is your best bet (11 miles). You can hire paddleboards, kayaks and canoes, walk or cycle on the water’s edge or take on some of the site’s MTB trails.

Food and drink

Aros yn Pentre Glas is in a rural location and you’ll need a car to get to the nearest shop which is less than two miles away up the A478 at the Glandy Cross petrol station. The road provides a handy link, however, to Narbeth and Cardigan (12 miles in either direction) where you’ll find plenty of shops to stock up at as well as a range of places to eat out if you don’t fancy cooking. If you don’t fancy going that far, the village of Crymych (five miles) is home to a community-owned pub, The Crymych Arms, a butchers and a general grocery store.
