1100 acres of gorgeous natural land at the headwaters of the Medina River. Crystal clear and clean spring feed water. Fourth-generation family owners. Remote camping. Very private with plenty of varied terrain for hiking swimming, tubing, biking or just hanging out in a hammock enjoying the breeze and peace and quiet. About 2 miles as a crow flies from Lost Maples State Park. You drive through a 13,000-acre ranch to get to us. We are at the end of a dead-end road with one way in and one way out. NO FISHING Free firewood for use during your stay and can make a good deal if you want to take some home! As our topo map shows we have a wide variety of terrain ranging from steep cliffs with huge views to shady canyons. The river cuts through the middle of the place and is surrounded by four hills that each have their unique characteristics ranging from flat oak-covered to rocky steep ridges. I guarantee you will find beauty all around. We do have a couple of fun areas to try your 4-wheel drive out. Please dont make your own....stay on trails. There are plenty of places to swim. When the Ladder is reserved, you may not swim there. Please be respectful. We have 1.5 miles of both sides of the river so plenty of places to swim. It varies a lot in depth and width over the ranch. Every camp spot has access to all the swimming holes except the ladder when it is booked. The main swimming holes are-- 1. Below the Green Cabin 2. Another my brother likes that has a cypress tree submerged you can sit on he calls the 1000 waterfalls 3. big pond which has the beginnings of a zip line if i can re-engineer how i have it tied on the opposite bank..right now its not high enough on the opposite bank. The goal is to zip line from one bank to the opposite and drop into the water...about 150 ft. It may or may not stay once we try it out...dont anyone getting hurt...But I think zip lines are a blast and we need to do a few rope swings into the water too! Back to the paradise
This is the second visit to Mr Fritz property. The first time we stayed at the Ladder Swimming Hole, we loved. We were amazed by the beauty and privacy of the Big Pond Tent Site, it is simply gorgeous! The experience of having the entire site including the pond and surroundings is perfect. The water is so clean that looks like the boat is floating in the air. The golden hours the water turns into a giant mirror, reflecting the trees. We were thinking to ourselves about what other camping would big such amazing experience. Mr Fritz’s hospitality was fantastic from the check in through the checkout. We will certainly come back.

Escape to Fritz’s Hidden Haven
19 ft travel trailer ·
Fritz’s ranch isn’t the sort of place you stumble upon; it’s the kind of spot people mention with a slight squint, as though guarding a secret they’re not entirely sure they should be sharing. What he’s offering is more than just a piece of Texas Hill Country. It’s the kind of place that resets your internal clock, whether you wanted it reset or not. Getting to the ranch is an adventure in and of itself, assuming your idea of adventure includes bouncing across multiple creek crossings while your GPS has a minor existential crisis. But then you see the views. You leave the banal world of highways and gas stations into a terrain that feels at once eternal and vividly present. Each turn offers a fresh perspective, not just visually but existentially, as though the land is gently reminding you that wonder is not a rare commodity but a renewable one. If you are hesitating to book, it suggests either a tragic lack of imagination or a fear of happiness. But, and this is crucial, understand that this is a privilege, not a transaction. The implicit social contract here is one of reverence: treat the land and Fritz's generosity with the kind of respect that ensures this door remains open, because experiences like this, once lost, tend to stay lost.

Perfect escape from the city
This was the perfect place to get away from the city. The directions to the ranch were straightforward, and we didn’t have any trouble getting there. The water crossings looked a little intimidating at first, but the directions provided reassured us that it wasn’t as bad as it seemed—and they were right! Crossing was easy, though I’m not sure a regular car could make it through. Once we arrived at the ranch, we met the owner, who was incredibly welcoming and helpful. He guided us on where to set up our camp and recommended a trail to explore. The trail was a blast to drive up, with a fun mix of terrain that made the adventure even better. We stayed on top of the ridge, and the view was absolutely beautiful. We could see a wide stretch of trees, hills, and open sky—it was peaceful and perfect for watching the sunset. At night, the sky lit up with stars, making it a magical experience. Overall, we had an amazing time and felt completely immersed in nature. It was the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. We’ll definitely be back!

Teepee Site at LAF.
Tent ·
Fritz was a top quality host meeting us at the property as promised with a smile. My 5 year old son and I had a blast hiking, off roading, exploring, and even rafting at and around our “Teepee Site”. The property was beautiful and quiet. There are many other sites we wish to try out so we will 100% be back and I recommend a stay at this ranch!
