Stonesthrow is a rural property in the Illinbah valley, nestled between Beechmont and Canungra, with council approval for limited camping (4WD only - leave no trace). So if you want to escape the crowds at public campgrounds, your privacy and enjoyment are assured! We are NOT a 4WD adventure park so vehicles must be parked up at your site on arrival and left there unless leaving the property to go to town/tourist activities. Any exploration of the property or travel to toilets is strictly on foot only- NO 4WD'ing. Anyone driving around the property will be asked to leave. We have sites both near the creek and facilities and up on the plateau. Our elevated/remote sites require capable 4WD's with off-road/AT tyres and campers need to be fully self-sufficient including having their own sealed chemical camping toilet and an ensuite/privacy tent. If you don't have your own commercial chemical camping toilet then you will be given a choice of sites with access to facilities. We reserve the right to view/verify your toilet before allowing you access to the elevated/remote sites. Caravans are restricted on where they can access- with no guarantee of sufficient sunlight for solar. Elevated/remote sites cannot be reached with a caravan- please bear this in mind if booking with a caravan. Well behaved dogs are welcome as long as they are on a lead when moving about the property. Please let us know if you wish to bring a dog and you will be allocated an appropriate site as some areas of the property are designated 'dog-free' camping zones. The common area (old shearing shed) has composting toilets, communal fridge, microwave, jug, drinking water, sink for washing up and table/chairs. There is 500 m of (shallow) creek frontage, kms of walking/riding trails and grassy creek flats for recreational activities. Over the decades, the property has been used to farm goats, train racing camels and spell racehorses. There is also a variety of fruit trees and plantation timber. Please note that arrival must be in daylight hours with sufficient time for orientation, travel to your site and set up before dark. If your plans necessitate arriving later than this then please contact us to discuss prior to booking. When booking - please read the property rules carefully.Stonesthrow Bush Camping suits self-contained 4WD campers with camper trailer/tent. Campsites should be selected based on weather, personal preference and size required. Bring all that you need and remove all rubbish upon leaving. All sites are unpowered. Access to power, camp kitchen (including fridge and water) and portaloos are available at the 'Shearing Shed' (common area). The property is very private, offering peace of mind and security. When booking - please read the property rules carefully. Dogs are welcome however we ask that you please discuss this with us first.

Weekend getaway

We had a great stay at Stonesthrow, Steve was super helpful when we arrived and called, then Richard looked after us incredibly well throughout the weekend. Wandering the property was so lovely, meeting all the animals and exploring the creeks and plateaus. We ventured out to a nearby park for a BBQ and a swim, loved it. Would definitely recommend for a weekend getaway.

Perfect camping spot

Perfect little camping trip away that’s not too far from home. The site we had was right by the creek and the large open spaces between the trees were perfect to test out our new caravan and the hosts are genuine people that were more than helpful. Will definitely be going back.

Steve and Richard were both very welcoming and accommodating to our needs for a large, quiet site for an extended family. We camped at Camel Yard and it was a well maintained level site, surround by trees on one side and a lovely, bubbling creek on the other. The sound of water flowing across the shallow ford while taking in a wonderful view of the stars overhead the added to the magic. This is our second stay at Stonesthrow and we'll definitely be back.
