Best in Puerto Rico: Finalist
Named one of the best Hipcamps to visit in 2023.
Finca Hekiti - Las Marias, Puerto Rico Hekiti ("One" in the Taino Language) is an agro-ecological farm focussed on preserving existing forests in the Las Marias mountains on the West of the island of Puerto Rico. In the planning stages we hope to recieve those interested in organic agriculture, tropical fruit varieties, forest inventory, bird watching, fungus and plant varieties as well as insect varieties. All interested in using the space for eco therapy, yoga retreats, meditation retreats, kharma yoga experiences, etc.Finca Hekiti offers a retreat for the local as well as the international traveler.  Our Cacao Forest Farm is on the border of Añasco and Las Marias in the interior mountains of the island of Puerto Rico, just 30-40 minutes from the coast.  We live in Rincón and work the farm on weekends some days a week, allowing for privacy and quiet for our guests.  You can pitch a tent in our two platforms on the forest or in some areas available close to the main container home. The area of the farm is about 9 acres of forest.  On weekends we focus our energies on working in the forest clearing the fallen trees and branches from Hurricane Maria and planting fine grain grafted cacao trees, as well as soursop (guanabana), citrus varieties, pineapple, plantain, banana, guava and more fruit trees and food producing plants and roots.  A rain catchment system is installed at the container home, as well as solar.  The common bathroom is available to all in the forest with a septic tank  toilet, shower and sink.  This campground is a 3 minute walk to the main container home and you may be sharing the forest with other campers.  We don't allow for campfires and expect all belongings be gathered as well as trash before leaving the forest. No picking fruits with out asking first please, for your safety and the economy of the farm. You can birdwatch, meditate, investigate the forest for plant varieties, drive down the mountain to great surf in Rincon or further interior for rivers, caves, waterfalls, coffee tours and more.  Our farm is rustic and we are still working on developing trail systems, but would be more than happy to have visitors to help us with any of the farm duties.

This was a fantastic trip thanks to Luis and Ricardo at the farm. The farm is one of the most gorgeous places I've ever been. If you're considering between this and a hotel, go here. You can be an a hotel anywhere, but this special place will be unforgettable. Ricardo and Luis are incredibly nice people and will make your trip easy and fun. They both have really nice suggestions and are just genuinely good people.

We absolutely loved camping in Ricardo’s land. The campsite has a platform so no need to worry about finding a flat spot. The outdoor cooking area is well equipped, the bathroom with flush toilet and cold water shower is clean and easy to access. Some amount of walking on a path across the beautiful forest is required to get from camping to kitchen to bathroom to parking. The forest sings all night with coquis, owls and other birds. We enjoyed talking to Ricardo and learning about cacao and agroforestry. An unforgettable experience. If we had not camped here our visit to Puerto Rico would have been less remarkable.

This cacao farm was paradise!
Tent
I had an amazing time camping amongst the beautiful trees and scenery on Ricardo's farm. I felt very safe and comfortable in my hammock. The bathroom and cooking area were great amenities, too. I was also pleased that I was not bothered by ant insects during my three night stay in March! The view from that altitude was amazing. The trails within the property provided lovely morning walks, too. I loved seeing the cacao trees, especially. Ricardo was very kind and generous with his knowledge. As an agronomist and farmer who grew up in PR, he has an instinct for the local ecology and growing conditions. He also had some wonderful suggestions for what to get up to during my day trips! The drive to the location was very smooth, despite many twists and turns through the mountainous roads- be careful of the narrow pavement. The spot was great if you want to check out more than one region within the island. I travelled to Isabela, Rincon, Aguadilla, and Rojo. Each was an easy drive from the campsite once I got used to the narrow roads! I would come back here all over again! Thank you, Ricardo and family!

Amazing Camping Amongst the Cacao
This was an incredible experience. There is nothing quite like camping in a tropical humid forest surrounded by the sounds of the wildlife. Our hosts were caring and knowledgeable about their land. It was a surreal experience to live on and agroforestry farm for a few days. We got to really appreciate what it means. And hopefully many more people will go get the perspective we were able to enjoy. My wife and I feel so lucky to have experienced this truly singular place. Amenities offered kept us comfortable too. We were able to cook and clean with the gas burners and rain capture powered sink. Same went for the full bathroom. Clean and extremely comfortable for a campsite. Just don't mind the peeping anole lizards when you shower. If you go, say hi to the family that owns the farm for us. They taught us a lot! Finca Hekiti es muy bonita!

Beautiful site!
Beautiful site with a nice bathroom and shower. The fruit trees are so beautiful and camping amongst them was so cool. There isn’t just cacao trees there’s grapefruit and banana trees too! There’s a nice platform to put your tent on down in the woods or there’s the option to camp up near the container home at the top of the property if you’re not comfortable walking deep into the woods. Ricardo had everything you could need for cooking in a cute little kitchen area outside. Would def recommend this place. We didn’t want to leave ❤️
