We own 58 acres of forest centered on a very old shale pit near Crescent Beach, Nova Scotia. Our long-term mission is to regenerate the landscape, returning all of the property to a forest in time. We hope to establish small camping compounds for family, friends and guests who would like to stay with us and enjoy the amazing scenery of Nova Scotia's beautiful South Shore. Located just below Huey Lake, our property is watered by a stream that flows from the lake, through a series of tiny waterfalls in a gorge, through beautiful pine, maple, and oak forest down to a meandering wetland that drains into the Petite Riviere watershed. Beavers are active in the area and have already begun the process of returning the old quarry to the wilderness. Their activities have created deep ponds where once there was a pit dug from the land for the shale that is abundant in this area. The beavers dammed and diverted the stream which has created a pond and wetland system at the lower end of the property. If you are very quiet in the early morning you may get to see Castor as he busily swims about his watery home. Located near some of the most beautiful features of Lunenburg County, our property is a 5-minute drive from Crescent Beach, Risser's Beach Provincial Park, and Petite Riviere. Opportunities to cycle, hike, swim, canoe, kayak, surf and sail are all around us.Park your RV, camper, or pitch a tent near the entrance to The Vales. This is a rocky site that is suitable for most types of campers and vehicles. We are beginning to create trails that wind from the campsite through The Vales into the forest beyond, including a beautiful clear brook, beaver pond, and secret swimming hole. Amenities nearby include Petite Riviere General Store (NSLC included), Petite Riviere Winery, Osprey's Nest Pub, Ploughman's Lunch Bakery and Cafe, Risser's Beach Provincial Park, Crescent Beach, Petite Riviere Beach, Lahave Bakery, Westcote Bell Pottery and Artworks, Maritime Painted Saltbox Gallery, Mother of Cod Vintage Shop, Fort Point Museum National Historic Site, Cape Lahave Adventures (Sea Kayak rentals and tours), plus many more artisans and gift shops in nearby Lahave. A short scenic ferry across the Lahave River sees you well on your way to historic Lunenburg, Mahone Bay, and further afield.

Edge of The Vales RV/Tenting Site
This is a great spot for overnight, like we did, or for a longer stay, with towns close enough for emergency supplies and restaurants, but it feels like the middle of nowhere. Port-a-potty within walking distance of the spot we picked. We stayed in the first spot closest to the road and heard maybe two cars before nightfall. Chad and Linda supplied firewood, kindling, starters and even matches for a fire in the stone firepit! THIS is the place for stargazing. We will definitely be back! Highly recommend!!

Edge of The Vales RV/Tenting Site
Chad has been renovating his property and didn’t have any planned stays at this time, however he was able to accommodate us with minimal notice providing us a close-by location to camp in between surf days at close by beaches. His property is a beautiful remote location with a few under-renovation sites that nicely accommodated our ground and hammock tents, but also would hold a trailer. Additionally he is working to complete his cozy bunkie just off these sites. He kindly offered us his sheltered area to escape an overnight thunderstorm. Chad’s property is an already nice remote area to sleep after days exploring the close by beaches, and will be a stellar accommodation after all his hard work is completed. Thank you for your kind and welcoming personality while providing us a place to relax on our surf trip!
