Brilliant for a rainy day
Cate is so kind and we could tell that she really puts a lot of care into this site! Before arrival, Care was one of the most communicative hosts we've ever had, she made sure we had accurate directions from our city and made sure to leave a light on for us when we told her we'd be arriving after dark.
We got to the site (only about a 20 m walk from the parking spot, not too far from Cate and Chris's pretty cabin. You can't see the cabin from camp right now, but you might be able to if you go when more leaves have fallen!) to find that it was clean and well-maintained. Cate had even placed a kerosene heater in the tent and left extra kerosene at the site for us- it was a chilly and rainy October weekend and that was a huge plus. The tent had even more supplies than we thought, the hosts really thought of everything when stocking the kitchen and making sure the tent had flashlights and lanterns available. Even the bed was one of the most comfortable hipcamps we've had!
Cate was very responsive during our whole stay, even walking down to point out a good hiking trail for us to take and providing us with some orange caps to stay safe in hunting season. We only had one somewhat negative experience when we returned from a hike to find hunters passing through our site (they didn't mess with anything, we were just surprised to find unfamiliar faces there), but I told Cate and she is planning to put up some signs so this won't happen again! The hosts do allow hunters to park at their cabin and it was early in hunting season, so the people going through our site didn't know it had been set up there when they took the shortcut through.
Overall, it was a really nice trip! We kept warm, enjoyed some great campfires by the creek, and had the convenience of an awning and grill available for cooking in the rain. If you love the sound of rain on a tent like we do, this is a really comfortable spot to enjoy it!
