Welcome to our 10-acre property nestled in the scenic 'Hogbacks,' where the Great Plains meet the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Our land features unique rock formations, wildflowers, grasses, and evergreen trees. Wildlife is abundant, and you may spot hummingbirds, bats, or the native Whiptail lizard. Feel free to explore the property and find your own quiet path through the landscape. Alongside the two homes where my partner and I live, we offer a sleeper cabin for guests with a portable power station. There’s also a covered canopy for setting up a tent, an outdoor kitchen with a propane stove, and access to collected rainwater for dishwashing. There’s a primitive outhouse for the guest bathroom with a handwashing station. Our property is just a 10-minute drive from the historic town of Las Vegas, NM, where you can browse highly-rated antique shops, indulge in a smothered burrito, or have a drink at The Skillet, a favorite local watering hole. For a more laid-back atmosphere, head to Byron T’s Saloon for a drink. Another 20 minutes will take you to Montezuma Hot Springs, the United World College castle, and the Dwan Light Sanctuary. If you're up for a hike, Hermit's Peak trailhead in the Pecos Wilderness is just a 45-minute drive away. With easy access to Santa Fe and Albuquerque via the Amtrak train, there’s no shortage of activities to enjoy during your stay.

Sleeper Cabin
humble retreat for weary travellers
Upon our after hours arrival at the Juniper Valley Sleeper, we immediately concluded that the most fitting word for this space is "quaint". The cabin was unlocked and the instructions are posted on the wall, which made check in seamless. In describing the stay to friends, I would say this is the perfect place to retreat. A safe abode. I tucked myself under the heavy covers, after drinking a beer and brushing my teeth with the water from my Nalgene, and slept peacefully to the lull of the fan. They truly provided all the things necessary to retreat without distractions. At night, I listened to the hum of crickets through the screen windows and felt cool throughout the night with the provided fan. For breakfast, we used the French press and Colman stove to cook food we brought. It should be noted that the space has wifi, so it is not entirely off the grid, but is still an experience that requires some prep work. Be sure to bring your own water and be slightly prepared with awareness for how to pack out your trash and waste. There are trash cans provided, so trash can be properly disposed of. All in all, this is a thoughtfully minimalistic space perfect for a solo retreat into New Mexico.
