We are proud to share this piece of Montville Maine land, which was the original home of Haystack Mountain School of Arts in the 1950's, a renowned Art school, where potters, painters, woodworkers, and others would come spend summers in communal art studios to perfect their craft! It was the first Art school that taught Raku style pottery in the USA. Serindipidiously, it is now owned by Colette Shumate-Smith- a Raku artist and painter that has spent her life both learning and teaching her craft! Located along State Rt 3, between Augusta and Belfast, you will drive through gorgeous rolling hills, and soak in some amazing views to get here!! Upon arrival you will notice the picturesque field that over looks a quaint mountain view from the valley! Sunsets are unbeatable each day, and each night you can fall asleep under a beautiful bright Milky Way! Strap on your boots and take a little hike on the property to a waterfall *overlook* in the middle of the woods! This pine woods property is magical on it's own, but in a perfect location for day trips to explore the area! Check out all Midcoast Maine has to offer, whether you like a day of shopping and a fine meal- or to lose yourself for a day of hiking, biking, kayaking- whatever your pleasure! 9 acre woods is close to Lake st. George, Liberty village, the coast of Belfast, and the China Lakes Region. A day trip by car to Acadia National Forest, Bar Harbor, or other roadside Maine stops is at your fingertips! I love camping here. There are different areas to choose from. It’s so quiet at night you can hear all the little critters.

Maine Hideaway.

Very enjoyable stay in a very wooded area. Plenty of property to roam. Colette and son both greeted us and gave us some history on the property. Old campground reminisce remains in a few areas. Plenty of wood on property for nice campfires. Just my kinda place.

Great stay at Nine Acre Woods

We had a great experience camping at Colette's campsite. I had a few questions about logistics since we were a group with one couple in an off-grid liveaboard van and one couple in a tent, but Colette responded quickly answering all my questions. Her space is not 100% complete but the provided portapotties were all we needed (showers currently under construction). Great location for our meal at The Lost Kitchen in nearby Freedom. The only downside was the occassional truck passing on the main road but otherwise a great experience, thank you!
