Site 7 - Stunning ocean view waterfall camp
I loved this campsite it was perfect for us. We were 2 young girls travelling around the island camping, and we felt super safe during our stay. The owner was always there to help us and make us feel at home.

Beautiful, peaceful getaway
What a beautiful place to camp for a weekend getaway! We had a great time staying here. The views of the ocean are just gorgeous and serene, and while much of the land is open rolling pasture, our campsite was tucked away behind some trees for some privacy. The waterfall, of course, was just beautiful and such a special place to visit. Ernestina herself is unbelievably warm and welcoming; I wish we'd had more time to with her and the other beautiful souls who call this place home. Hopefully next time we can join for beekeeping. :)
Logistics:
- Our Nissan Rogue was able to make the drive to campsite with 2WD but you will want some clearance for the tall grass and uneven ground.
- Bring an extra tarp for rain! We had one under the tent which made a big difference in keeping us dry. Our normal rain fly was enough for on top.
- There's a nice little fire pit, and we were able to use wood leftover from prior campers, but it will be difficult to store in a dry place if it rains.
If you want a beautiful, restful place on the Hamakua Coast, this is the spot.

Full Moon Weekend
I had a great stay, full moon weekend at this waterfall campsite. I could hear the stream as I drifted to sleep at night and took many a cool dips in the stream when the sun was too hot mid-day. We ate out at Coco Cantina and the Hilo farmers market is fun.
It’s an adventurous location. The hike to the water fall is steep at parts and can be slippery. They offer many different locations for campers and are very kind. Taking my luggage from the parked rental car to our site and back. From the cars to the water fall it’s about a mile and a half hike. We camped at the top of the ravine and felt nice and secluded from the world.
We brought;
Large tent (12x12)
2 Tarps (1 for fire wood and the other for your tent in extreme rains)
Dry box (plastic bin with a lid)
Towels (2 per person, keep one in dry box)
Fire bricks ( we broke off a little piece to get a fire started the first night)
Machete (Optional, they lent us tools)
Big Jug of wash water
Drinking water
They were very kind hosts and if in doubt, don’t be shy and reach out to Ernestina. She’ll let you know what it takes to camp in North Hilo.

Stunning ocean view waterfall camp
The campsite was a grassy field next to a forest where a beautiful waterfall was hidden downhill. Could hear the water from our tent, it was idyllic. Stunning sunset, starry, and sunrise skies. Nothing quite like the grassy slopes of the Hamakua coast. This is a very special spot!
