A single bell tent in the Devon countryside – with alpacas for neighbours

Rosebud Ranch offers romantic glamping stays for two on an alpaca farm in Devon. A single bell tent is set up here with everything you’ll need for a relaxing stay surrounded by the sights and sounds of an organic, eco-friendly smallholding. You’ll find it tucked down country lanes deep in the rural Devon landscape that separates Exmoor and Dartmoor National Parks. It’s a perfect place to get away to for a quiet break or, perhaps, to use as a base to explore all aspects of North Devon.

The ranch and your stay have both been put together by Lucy and Nick. They make you very welcome then leave you to enjoy the little hideaway they’ve created. It consists of a four-metre furnished bell tent bedroom, a rustic outdoor kitchen, a compost loo and a lovely wood-fired outdoor bath. There’s a fire pit as well for evenings around the campfire. Everything is designed to keep you well connected to the outdoors. You can hear the hoot of owls from the neighbouring woods at night, you can bathe while looking up at Devon’s starry skies and only need to unzip the tent to see who is grazing in the fields around you.

You may not want to leave this rural retreat for the duration of your stay… but there are some things worth exploring that are not too far away. The friendly local pub, The Grove Inn, is one, Quince Honey Farm is another. There’s horse riding and fishing opportunities nearby too. And, if you don’t mind 20 minutes in the car, you’ll find yourself in Exmoor National Park.

If you stay in Dakota you will experience genuine connection to the land, the wildlife, the animals , yourself and to each other, where time does not exist and you appreciate the dark nights and of course the amazing outdoor wood fired retro bath, this is an experience not to be missed. We pride ourselves on providing our guests with privacy whilst experiencing the true nature of the alpaca. Watch the mums feed their babies, the sun go down then the stars appear whilst having a relaxing warm soak. Dakota is a luxury 4m bell tent with double bed and hand painted furniture. Besides the woodfired bath, there is a fire pit outside along with seating and an outdoor kitchen. The alpaca herd are located in the paddock that is overlooked by the tent. There is a short walk to the compost loo. There is parking by our cabin on hardstanding, a trolley is provided to take belongings from car to tent as there is a short walk . There are many things to do locally such as fishing, Exmoor safaris, Quince Honey Farm is in South Molton, there is horse riding at Collacott, many visit to go surfing at our beaches or wild swimming in some of the stunning North Devon areas such as Simonsbath.

Beautiful spot!
Lovely spot, the outdoor bath is really special. Lucy and Nick were very welcoming, and it was so lovely to be surrounded by all the wildlife and animals. A cozy lovely spot for a relaxing holiday, pretty much everything we needed was provided.

Rosebud Ranch is a certified site with Freedom Camping. It is an off grid, 13 acre, adults only, eco friendly alpaca farm situated between Dartmoor and Exmoor in North Devon. We have lovely views, abundant wildlife and some stunning sunsets! There is a woodland adjoining our land which is home to owls, deer and many other wild animals, we often see hares playing in our fields too! The Ranch has been built up over the last 6 years from being just fields to a working farm and home for us with our animals, a herd of alpacas, a small flock of very friendly sheep, bees, hens, horses, cats and a dog. We have used reclaimed materials for many projects including animals shelters, we are fully solar powered, we farm organically and we make rugs and horse tack from alpaca/sheep fleece! We are known for being the first farm in the UK to offer 'alpaca yoga' and appeared on ITV This Morning with our herd, the Rosebud Alpacas. We are very passionate about wellbeing, nurturing mind, body and soul and so we pride ourselves on offering genuine connection to nature and animals in an authentic setting. The beauty of staying with us is that you have plenty of privacy due to us not being a large site, we much prefer to offer peace and tranquillity to our guests, we have had many compliments about how our farm enables time to recharge and just be. As the herd are located next to the tent, you will experience the true nature of the alpaca whilst they interact, feed their babies and you can watch the alpaca babies ( cria ) play. Our super friendly sheep are always close by for some attention too! South Molton town is a 10 min drive and there are a couple of country pubs within walking distance. Fishing is available at Fox & Hounds in Eggesford. Our neighbours at Collacott offer riding lessons/hacks and we are within easy reach of some beautiful beaches. Bespoke rug orders can be taken and we also sell our produce on site such as alpaca yarn, fresh eggs, soap, honey from our own bees, extra fire wood and more. We grow our own veg using horse and alpaca manure so occasionally sell the vegetables and the alpaca poop! It is in great demand, mostly because it doesn't need to be rotted down, used straight from alpaca to garden!
Nearby attractions

Rosebud Ranch is not far from the Devon village of Kings Nympton, four miles from the town of South Molton. The neighbouring farm offers horse riding lessons for beginners and experienced riders and there’s trout fishing on the River Taw from a beat at the Fox & Hounds hotel in Eggesford (seven miles). Quince Honey Farm (six miles) is a fascinating place to visit where you can learn all about bees and honey production in lovely garden setting. There’s also a nice cafe, The Nectary, for lunch or cakes. Exmoor National Park is about nine miles north of the farm with plenty of walking, wild swimming and other outdoorsy fun to be had. Dartmoor is a little further, about 20 miles to the south, but with the Teign Gorge and Castle Drogo on this (northern) side of the national park, it’s worth the 50-minute drive. It’s a similar distance to the closest beaches: Woolacombe and Saunton Sands.

Food and drink

Rosebud Ranch has its own hens and bees so, if you’re lucky, there maybe some produce available to tuck into while you’re on site. There’s occasionally fresh veg from the garden too. South Molton is the place to head for if you want more than what grows on site. The town has a lively market on Thursdays and Saturdays where you can pick up local produce and a range of independent shops and eateries too. The Corn Dolly Tea Room is the place to head to for a Devonshire cream tea and there's a choice of pubs as well. The closest pub to your tent, however, is a great place for dinner. The Grove Inn, in Kings Nympton, is just over a mile down the road and rarely fails to impress with its seasonal, local menus and friendly atmosphere. If you’re out for a day on Exmoor, The Exmoor Forest Inn is a lovely place for lunch or dinner.
