Long Moor Farm

This campsite, close to the North Devon Coast and the edge of Exmoor, offers the simplest of pleasures. At Long Moor Farm, it’s all about camping in a good location with clean facilities and a friendly host. It’s simple stuff but it’s enough to keep campers coming back. And it’s dog and campfire friendly too. Book yourself in for a stay and you’ll soon be enjoying days exploring the North Devon Coast and nights back on the farm. With space for 100 tents, campervans, or caravans, this is not a small campsite, so it’s a blessing that it’s in a big field. As a result, pitches are spacious at 10 by 12 metres a piece. They are marked only by mown pathways and reached by a handy hard-standing track round the field. More than half have electric hook up and all have access to the facilities: timber-clad cubicles for flushing toilets and hot water showers alongside undercover outdoor sinks. They are clustered together in a little facilities yard, giving the place an almost festival feel – but, crucially, they are kept immaculately clean. The other thing that deserves a mention here is the honesty shop, which campers all seem to love. Friendly owner Rocky, seems to have thought of everything you might need here from locally-produced ice cream to logs.

There’s a kids’ play area on site and lovely views (especially at sunset), but really and truly it’s likely you’re here to explore. The closest beach, Combe Martin is about a 10-minute drive away but there are plenty more to choose from. It’s only nine miles, for example, to the surf and family-friendly sands of Woolacombe, one of the best beaches in the UK. In the other direction, the wilds of Exmoor continue for 30-ish miles.
