Luxury pod glamping in the grounds of a nursery garden in the Yorkshire Wolds

If the Oasis hit Half the World Away expresses a desire to quit life in a boring city, then Little Wold Away might just be the place that modern urbanites are longing for. In the grounds of a garden centre, a mile from the Yorkshire Wolds Way, this peaceful slice of Yorkshire's East Riding is a thoroughly rural escape. Yet, while woodpeckers tap the surrounding trees and campfires provide evening entertainment, the hideaway still offers 21st-century comforts – think under-floor heating, free WiFi and en-suite bathrooms. You don’t have to be a rock n’ roll star to appreciate that.

On a farm that’s been in the same family for over half a century, and in a neat paddock hemmed by trees, Little Wold Away is home to just two glamping pods, each sleeping up to four people in a double bed and a double sofa bed. Inside, the pods feature a compact kitchen area with a fridge, sink, microwave, kettle, toaster and the essentials for cooking up a storm, while, outside, there are brick barbecues for a more al fresco option. For local meat, there’s an excellent butcher’s – The Yorkshire Meat and Game Larder – in the neighbouring village of South Cave.

Beyond the fun of the glampsite itself – there’s a badminton net, swing ball and other garden games – there’s plenty to do nearby. Those with littl’uns might go a minute down the road to William’s Den, an adventure park where kids can clamber around and tire themselves out, while adults often fancy a tour of the new and award-winning Little Wold Vineyard, a mile down the road. Further afield, it’s 15 minutes by car to historic Beverley, half an hour to Hull and 35 minutes to York, while the East Yorkshire coast is also less than an hour away.

Stay family of 4 - safari tent lodg
So we booked a bunny pod with hot tub and due to a cancellation the host rang and offered us a free upgrade to the Safari Lodge tent with new hot tub. Absolutely fantastic. As soon as we got there we were greeted so friendly. Everything was spotless and worked. There was tea /coffee/ sugar even milk in the fridge along with a lovely bottle of prosecco. The boys were left a box of Jaffa cakes. Even the bathroom had soap/ toilet roll/ hand towel. Kitchen had everything you needed even washing up liquid and a brand new first aid kit. The hot tub was fabulous and the fence around the pitch made it private, the outside sitting area is perfect to sit out and watch the boys play. Everything inside the tent was perfect. We had a wonderful weekend and being in the lodge was just the perfect way to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Thank you again and we will be seeing you again.

Loved our stay! Pod has everything you need for a comfortable stay and really enjoyed how private it was. Was a great base for us to get out and about and we enjoyed coming back to the hot tub. Couldn’t recommend highly enough.

The site is hidden away within the Yorkshire Wold Heritage region with its stunning country walks and plenty to see and do. Enjoy a relaxing holiday in this beautiful location. We have two beautifully designed luxury pods suitable for either couples or families to enjoy. Our cosy underfloor heated pods sleep up to 4 people, starting from £95 per night, they come with some added luxuries of a comfortable double bed, sofa bed and fully fitted shower room including a toilet and sink. There is a fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster alongside cups, plates and cutlery. Enjoy a luxury outdoor experience with generous decking area, brick built BBQ and fire pit taking in the tranquil surroundings of the charming landscape.
Nearby attractions

Little Wold Away Glamping is just west of the Humber Bridge and well placed for walking the chalky route of the Yorkshire Wolds Way, as well as visits to both Hull (14 miles) and York (20 miles), plus historic Beverley and its famous minster (10 miles; 01482 868540). The aquarium in Hull – The Deep (01482 38100) – is renowned and one of the most visited attractions in the North East, while any visit to York is not complete without some time spent walking the old city walks and perhaps a cuppa in Betty's Tea Rooms (01904 659142). For family fun close to home, try a visit to William's Den (01430 472230) – an adventure playground two minutes' down the road, with rope walls, wobbly bridges and plenty of things to clamber on. It's a 15-minute drive to Yorkshire's last working windmill. Skidby Mill (01482 84840) was restored in 2010 and the sails turn several days a week (usually Wednesday to Sunday, wind permitting) to produce artisan flour, made by the miller and available to buy in the shop. The original warehouses surrounding the mill still stand and are used as a museum of rural life – sometimes you can see the flour being bagged. There are also hands-on activities for children, a wildlife garden and play area, and a cafe in the courtyard, so it's a pretty good family visit at any time, even if the sails aren't turning. If you're visiting in June, don't miss Beverley Folk Festival, while the Freedom Festival is a fantastic culture event in Hull during September.

Food and drink

It's a 15-minute walk to the fish'n'chippie in North Cave (The Catch; 01430 424550) and a half-hour walk (or 5 minute drive) to South Cave, where you can chose between the contemporary and cosily furnished Fox and Coney pub (01430 471050), the more old fashioned Bear Inn (01430 422482) with its second room with a pool table and dart board, and the thoroughly hip Cave Bar and Kitchen (01430 471204), which serves excellent coffee and has a cool diner feel by night. There's a Chinese takeaway (01430 422975) in South Cave too.
