Our 5 acre forested farm backs onto Hayward Lake and has the Stave River at the front of the property. Our farm has ducks, chickens, rabbits, and a collection of cats. There are wild berry bushes throughout the property and the surrounding forest.
Lake access is private (people could hike in or canoe up, but normally we have it to ourselves) and the lake itself is a great spot for wildlife watching (beavers, deer, bats, fish, bears, owls, eagles, osprey etc.). The Stave River in the front of the property offers a more sunny spot for swimming and fishing. The Hayward Reservoir Trail circumnavigates the whole lake and the trail entrance is a 5 minute walk from the cabin.
The cabin site includes a picnic table and outhouse. We provide fresh spring water and campfire wood can be supplied ($10 a bundle). The cabin is insulated and can be heated with the wood stove so it is suitable for use all year. The cabin is located in the middle of the forest right by the lake and is extremely private. It is insulated and has a wood stove so it is comfortable in all seasons. The lake is a 1 minute walk from the cabin, accessed by a short trail and then some stairs. The cabin is a 2 min walk downhill from the main house.
The cabin itself is 8x12 ft with a loft. It has a mini wood stove for heat and cooking and there is a camp stove for outdoor use. The kitchen includes a sink and some basic dishes/supplies and there is a small table. There is also a battery-powered lighting system and phone charger. The first floor features a bench that doubles as a bed. The loft is accessible by a ladder and has a queen mattress (you will need to bring your own bedding or sleeping bags). An outhouse is tucked around the back of the cabin. We provide a container of fresh spring water for drinking. There is also a fire pit in front of the cabin for use when there is not a fire ban, and we can supply wood ($10 a load) if you need it.
The cabin sleeps 3 comfortably but if you need more room you can also book our tenting campsite as an add on at the time of booking (same place you book the canoe or pay for wood). The campsite is at the top of the hill, close to where you park for the cabin and has its own picnic table and outhouse. It can accommodate two medium sized tents or one large tent.
