Nestled beneath a hardwood hammock, most of the 112 sites at Hillsborough River Campground provide excellent shade to escape the Florida sun. Each campsite comes equipped with water, a fire ring, and a picnic table -- and most sites come with electric hookups, too. If you want to hang out in a hammock, try to snag sites 61, 68, 70, 110, or 111 -- you’re permitted to hoist a hammock in these campsites only.

If you want a little more seclusion, ask about the primitive camping. They have 4 primitive sites and only allow up to 10 people total in all of the separate areas at one time.

To avoid the heat, humidity, and bugs, try camping in the winter. This is however the busy season, aka snowbird season, so you should try booking a couple of months in advance.
