About

Set between Salmon Arm and Sicamous on the shore of the southernmost arm of Shuswap Lake in BC, Herald Provincial Park is a popular summer destination for families and watersports enthusiasts. The park has an extensive sandy beachfront that gets packed with families enjoying the water and shoreline in summer, as well as a boat launch to access lakefront activities like kayaking, fishing, and water-skiing. The park’s campground sits within easy walking distance to the spectacular Margaret Falls, while hiking trails to the Upper Canyon offer more strenuous exercise. The abundant natural environment features birding opportunities to view some of the 70 documented species in and around the park.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. Make your plans early to reserve a campsite in Herald Provincial Park. You can reserve campsites two months to the date of your arrival, beginning in March.
  2. All campsite reservations must be made by phone or online at BC Parks’ Discover Camping website.

When to go

Herald Provincial Park is very busy during the summer months of July and August and into the fall months. Shuswap Lake is a summer holiday mecca, so the lake can get a lot of boat traffic. In winter, the campground is closed but the day-use area and trails are open to the public.

Know before you go

  • Herald Provincial Park has 128 reservable campsites, many with lake views.
  • Herald doesn’t have wifi, but cell phone service is strong.
  • The park has a large adventure playground in the day-use area.
  • Campfires are permitted and firepits are provided at each campsite. Park operators encourage visitors to conserve wood and protect the environment by minimizing the use of fires and bringing a portable stove for cooking instead.
