Private Sunset Camping

3 sites · Tents10 acres · Stanstead Est, QC
With 2000 secluded feet on the spectacular Tomifobia river in the Eastern Townships, Riverstone Farm is the perfect camping getaway for nature lovers of all ages. Enjoy the quiet shores of the Tomifobia on site or venture out- There is lots to do in this part of the Eastern Townships minutes from the Vermont border. Hike Mount Orford, Mount Pinnacle in Barnston or the Coaticook Gorge, spend the day at the beach- Lakes Lister, Massawippi and Memphremagog are nearby or cross the border into Vermont and swim in the clear waters of lake Willoughby. There is also golf at Dufferin heights, cycling paths, shopping and quaint villages to explore. I would be delighted to help you plan some activities to make the most of your visit. A recently planted, fenced in food forest with picnic tables is the perfect place to watch the sunset as you let your dogs run free, while trails in the forest allow you the opportunity to explore the forested area by the river. A fire pit, two picnic tables with umbrellas, four Adirondak chairs, washrooms offer additional amenities to enjoy your stay. Please note that though I only accept 1 group of campers per visit so you can enjoy your intimacy in the evenings with your friends and family, you will not have exclusive use of the food forest during the day as I may need to attend to my trees for weeding, harvesting or other. Most guests leave at some point for an outing so schedules can easily be coordinated. Extras include: a $5 per pet extra charge, $5 hot coffee morning service, $100 private yoga class in my yoga tent and $10 local maple syrup. Please note that the base rental price includes 2 people so any more (for a maximum of 6) are charged $10 per person.

Forest camping near Magog guide

Overview

On the shore of massive Lake Memphremagog, Magog serves up a multitude of urban delights in the prettiest of surroundings. As part of the Eastern Townships region, Magog is a gourmet traveller’s dream, surrounded by food and wine trails with epicurean experiences. The city’s walkable downtown has restaurants celebrating local cuisine, as well as a distillery and brewery, boutiques, galleries, and all the amenities you’d expect, but Magog is also full of parks and walking trails. The town's beach is perfect for swimming and paddling, and when setting out from Magog, campers will find they're on the doorstep of Mont-Orford National Park and close to many private and public campgrounds.

When to go

Supporting a year-round population, Magog is greater to visit anytime, but the best time depends on what exactly you want to do. Cold-weather campers can pitch a tent in the dead of winter in some parks, but if you’re looking to enjoy the lake, then mid-July through late August is the best time. We adore the Eastern Townships in fall thanks to its glorious changing leaves.

Know before you go

  • You should have no problem with cell reception in the city, but once you get deep into the national parks or more remote areas, service is likely to be limited.
  • French is the first language here, and although most locals speak English fluently, it's helpful to have a translation app on your phone.
  • You’ll find it difficult to explore this region without a vehicle. Magog has just a limited transit service that offers drastically reduced services on weekends.
  • From June to October, the Magog farmers market runs very Sunday.
