Overview

Just kilometers from the Vermont border, Coaticook is part of Quebec's Eastern Townships and offers plenty for campers all year-round. The town serves up fun attractions, a bunch of gourmet experiences thanks to an abundance of local producers, superb fishing, and a microbrewery. it's also full of parks and is also home to the amazing Forest Lumina multimedia adventure, which lights up the trees in the Parc de la Gorge de Coaticook at night throughout the summer. Staying in Coaticook puts you close to several stunning national parks, with a number of private campgrounds also in the area.

When to go

The Eastern Townships region is a four-season destination where most national parks offer winter camping and a range of snow and ice activities, so in theory, anyone can camp right through the coldest weather, provided you have the right gear. Coaticook can be really busy in July and August, but spring is pretty and fall may be the best time to visit, as it is usually still warm and the changing of the leaves is spectacular.

Know before you go

  • You’ll find it difficult to get around this region without a vehicle. Roadtripping from Montreal before heading out to the Eastern Townships may be your best option.
  • There are EV charging stations in Coaticook.
  • Each September the town hosts a Fête de la Magie, where you can watch magicians perform and take workshops with them—something to plan to attend or avoid, depending on how much you love magic!
  • There's a US Border crossing south of the town. Remember to have appropriate documentation with you to get into and out of the US if you choose to cross over into Vermont.
