In addition to camping and educational tours, we host private and community events, grow & sell produce and eggs, hatch and sell chicks, rescue ratites, and support the local bee population (which gives us RAW honey to sell), and are working to open a private U-pick-by-appointment orchard. The path leads you to fascinating sites such as the caldera of a tar volcano, ancient Chumash cupules and mortars on boulders, and a tar marsh where wildlife thrives. Whether you're a nature enthusiast, botanist, birder, hiker, or simply seeking peace, this land offers something for you. We welcome guests to stay for a maximum of three days, but we're open to accommodating longer stays upon request. Please be very careful booking cottages for someone else - like your parents just arriving from another continent - they might prefer something more conventional. We make our cottages very comfortable - they have all the basics - electricity - wifi - most have kitchens, bath or shower and comfy clean beds. The wide open empty lot looks out at the beautiful mountains. Leap Lab Farm

15 acres of land right nestled up against South Mountain, on an ecologically-minded property where we are building a sustainability education center. From your campsite, you'll have a sweeping view of the Topa Topa mountain range, as well as a birds eye view of our community farm. Site has access to a geodesic dome, a funky spot to hang out, meditate, do yoga, or picnic. There is one electric outlet to plug into, as well as a hookup for water. Behind the site is South Mountain, where you can scramble, look for fossils from the Sespe range (20 million years old) and enjoy some peace and quiet.

About

Named after a Hollywood actor, this sandy shoreline is where locals escape the crowds of nearby Malibu and Santa Monica. With three miles of sand, there’s plenty of space to swim, surf, and sunbathe, or you can explore the coast along the 19-mile South Bay Bicycle Trail. Need more convincing? Will Rogers State Beach has also graced the small screen in several TV shows, including the original Baywatch. There’s no camping at the state park, but campers can head inland to camp in the mountains or check into an RV park in nearby Malibu.

When to go

The sun shines through all four seasons at Will Rogers, so you can enjoy seaside strolls and bike rides even when it’s too cold to swim. Peak season is June through August, and although it’s often quieter than neighboring beaches, it can still get busy. Get there before midday to snag a parking spot, especially on weekends and holidays.

Know before you go

Will Rogers State Beach is located along the Pacific Coast Highway (Route 1), between Santa Monica and Malibu in West LA. It’s about a 19-mile or 40-minute drive from downtown LA.
Daily parking fees are charged at the state beach. Will Rogers is one of the few California State Parks that does not accept the Annual Day Use Pass.
Facilities at Will Rogers State Beach include volleyball courts, a children’s playground, a beachside café, picnic tables, showers, and restrooms. There are lifeguard patrols through summer.
There are accessible parking spaces, restrooms, and picnic sites at Will Rogers State beach. Beach wheelchairs are also available.
