About

Travel to a time when remote fishing ports dotted the Atlantic coast and England and France vied for control of North America. Home to the remains of an 18th century fishing settlement and the ruins of a battle-ravaged earthen fort, Canso Islands National Historic Site welcomes curious explorers upon its windswept shores to journey through the history that forged a nation.

When to go

The ideal time to visit Canso Islands National Historic Site is during the summer months, from July 1 to September 4, when the site is open daily from 10am to 1pm & 2pm to 6pm. Outside these times, the harsh Atlantic weather can make the experience less enjoyable.
