Woodland tree tents and dog-friendly meadow camping in Pembrokeshire

Kite View Farm offers peaceful off-grid camping between Broad Haven beach and the hub town of Haverfordwest. It’s a handy location from which to explore all of Pembrokeshire with its furthest reaches not much more than half an hour’s drive away and plenty of highlights much closer than that. And speaking of highlights, we might suggest that the campsite itself is one of them. It’s a laid-back campsite on a permaculture farm with a welcoming host, a dog-friendly policy and the right attitude towards campfires. That’s to say they are not only allowed but encouraged. Plus, you can pitch here in your own tent or book a Tentsile tent that’s ready and waiting for you, suspended between trees.

The Tentsile tents are a cross between a regular tent, a hammock and a tree house and offer both a cool way to stay on this site and a reason to visit in the first place. There are three Tentsiles available, each with its own fire pit, seating area and compost loo on the ground below. For showers, you'll need to head to the meadow where the landlubbers pitch their tents. There are six pitches and six acres here so there’s always plenty of room. These too each have their own compost toilet, fire pit area and picnic bench. Logs are for sale and tripods for cooking over the flames are available for campers to use too.

The site is part of a 25-acre permaculture farm. It’s a green location made up of meadows and woodland and while there are no sea views here, it’s an excellent place to base yourself if it’s the coast you’ve come to explore. Broad Haven offers the closest beach, just five miles away, but there are a reported 52 other beaches in Pembrokeshire; none too far to visit. And there are other things to do too: cute towns, adventure parks, walks and wildlife-spotting boat trips. A day at puffin hotspot Skomer Island is a must for wildlife lovers as the launch point is only 12 miles away.

We’re thrilled to be an official Tentsile Experience Camp. Tentsile are a UK family-run business, and the original name in tree tents. Often copied but never beaten in our experience. You can come and hang out in your own tree tent or let us do the hard work for you and stay in one of our prepitched tents. Tentsile tree tents are the most comfortable camping experience about, each tent is anchored to 3 trees and suspended off the ground keeping you away from the floor and any creepy crawlies that might be around. Once you’ve spent a night in a Tentsile tree tent you won’t want to go back.

Nearby attractions

There are some lovely woodland walks within the farm if you fancy a stroll in green surroundigns but the ancient county town of Haverfordwest is only three miles from the site. It's both a handy place for amenities and a pleasant place to visit with a river running through it and the ruins of the closest castle to explore. There’s a museum within its walls. The connected beaches of Broad Haven and Little Haven are the closest place to reach the coast, both about five miles from site, within the Pembrokeshire National Park. When the tide is out, there’s a big expanse of sand and when the water is calm it’s great for swimming and sandcastle building. On windy days it’s popular with surfers and kite surfers. Other popular beaches include Marloes Sands (11 miles) which is only accessible on foot, with parking on top of the cliffs that add to the charm of this spot. At low tide it’s good for rockpooling. It’s close to Martin’s Haven where the boats for Skomer Island launch from. Make sure you book your trip in advance if you want to visit this off-shore wildlife reserve. It’s best between April and July when it’s home to breeding puffins as well as Manx shearwaters and other seabird colonies. At the other end of St Bride’s Bay is St David’s, the UK’s smallest city, and another popular place to visit. Connecting all these coastal highlights is the Pembrokeshire Coast Path National Trail, part of the Wales Coast Path, which offers seemingly endless walks with great views.

Food and drink

Haverfordwest is just three miles from site with plenty of cafes, shops and eateries so whether you want to have dinner out or buy ingredients for dinner on site, it’s the closest place to head for. If you fancy a daytime bite to eat on the coast though, your hosts recommend Runways Kiln at Marloes Sands (10 miles). Another of their favourite spots is Paternoster Farm. It’s a half hour drive (15 miles) but worth it for their tasty sharing platters served in a rustic barn dining room on Fridays, Saturdays and occasional Sundays too. Broad Haven (five miles) has options for fish and chips by the sea and the Corner Cafe in Little Haven is great for breakfast near the beach.
