Located in Victoria’s goldfields, 2 hrs NW of Melbourne, Amherst Farm Camp Site is secluded, quiet, off grid and private. There is only one large camping area on the 20 acre property that can be enjoyed by up to 5 people per group and up to 4 groups at any time. The site is surrounded by farmland and has great views of Lillicur State Forest to the south. There is plenty to see and do in the region. You can visit historic gold towns, bike the Ballarat–Skipton Rail Trail, walk through state and national parks or visit pubs, restaurants, wineries and galleries. The old gold town of Talbot is an easy 7km bike ride from the Camp Site. On weekends you can dine at the Talbot Pub or Fossickers Café. You can even try your luck at gold prospecting and hire a metal detector on site. Alternatively you can simply relax and enjoy the tranquillity and abundant wildlife.There’s only one camp site so your privacy is assured. The site is spacious and provides great views of Lillicur State Forest to the south. There a fire site with steel drums and free kindling supplied. Limited water is supplied in a tank and there is a composting toilet. Amherst farm is centrally located in the Goldfields so it’s a great base to set up and take off for the day.

We loved our site, private but at the same time open for our dogs to stretch their legs. Would definately return.

A Perfect Getaway
Our stay at the Amherst Farm Camp Site in western Victoria was nothing short of spectacular. Nestled in a pristine location, the campsite features a spacious flat clearing dotted with smaller gum trees, which provided fantastic shade during the day. As the sun set, we were treated to a breathtaking view of the Milky Way core overhead—truly an unforgettable sight! One of the highlights of our stay was the delightful visit from Maggy, the charming kelpie. Our dog, Odin, had an absolute blast playing with her, which added to the warm and inviting atmosphere of the campsite. It was wonderful to see how friendly and welcoming the local pets could be! Wendy, our host, made our experience even more memorable with her exceptional hospitality. From the moment we arrived, she was incredibly helpful, bringing us firewood and personally guiding us to our perfect camping spot. Her attentiveness ensured that we felt right at home, which is hard to come by in many camping locations. Overall, the combination of stunning natural scenery and top-notch hosting makes Amherst Farm Camp Site a true gem. I can't recommend it enough for fellow campers looking for a peaceful getaway. We left with lasting memories and a strong desire to return. I’ll definitely be going back!
