Nearby, High Island Bird Sanctuaries provide critical habitat for migratory birds and are open 365 days a year, dawn to dusk. There have been nearly 400 species documented, including several species never before seen in the United States. Smith Oaks Bird Sanctuaries is an eBird hotspot with 177 acres of fields, woods, wetlands and ponds. Boy Scout Woods and Eubanks Woods Bird Sanctuaries also offer major birding sites in High Island.
