Sky Ranch is the result of a love for the desert and for 1980s post-apocalyptic movies. A place to step out of our busy lives and be still, gain a new perspective, and imagine a different way to live. Once the floor of a large inland sea, Sky Ranch Terlingua is covered with fossilized mollusk shells. After the water receded, the area was visited by various animal and human migrations. Today, Sky Ranch is a refuge for two native Texans with deep roots that predate Texas itself.  "Be friendly, but firm. But most of all, be yourselves."  - Lester, Cherry 2000

Sky Ranch North Shelter
SKY Ranch was a lovely sheltered campsite about 2 miles off the main road into Study Butte. We enjoyed the solitary nature of the site and particularly appreciated the shelter one night when the winds were 25 mph. The coyotes woke us both mornings!

Magical Desert Ramada
Needs better trail markings. Especially for the Ramada. The host mentioned that it may be windy. That is probably for that entire section of Texas. I couldn’t do anything in the open until the evening when it turned very pleasant. It’s most ideal for an overland rig.

Sky Ranch North Shelter
Absolutely loved this site. Felt so peaceful and far enough away from the other sites. The shelter building was such a nice touch especially since our first night was quite windy. We had the most incredible showing of stars and got to see Donkeys and coyotes wander near by! Easy to get to from Terlingua.

Magical Desert Ramada
Great spot with excellent views of the desert and sunset. The lights on the Ramada were a cool feature as well.

Peaceful, quiet, beautiful stay
If you're looking for peace and quiet with beautiful views, this is the place! Really enjoyed our time here. It was windy, but the shelter helped. The directions were clear and easy to follow. Loved that it's so close to the park entrance!
