Nomadic camping
Best for self-contained campers. There are no toilets, showers, or potable water at this Hipcamp.
Just a relatively flat plot of land in Study Butte, near Terlingua. Close to everything, especially the National Park. Super easy to get to, a quarter mile of two wheel drive easy gravel road from the highway. Just minutes to food, grocery, showers, toilets, gas, etc... Not the most beautiful spot, neighbors in sorta run down houses, but there are $150 rental cabins a block away,. A great place to book up for a group of friends. I take 15 to 20 buddies each March. Please note there are no toilets or showers on site, but 24 hour free toilets and $3 pay showers are only a 2 minute drive away at Big Bend Resort and Adventures.

EXTREMELY NOISY!!!
Terrible experience. There was a party right outside the campsite that went on until 4am!!! People yelling. Dogs barking. Roosters calling. It was a madhouse. I got no sleep and will not be returning here ever again.

Nice little place. Loved sleeping right next to a mountain. The dogs/chickens are pretty loud throughout the night but just bring some earplugs.

Territorial dogs running loose
The directions were really good - which was great because the overturned semi and dumped massive refrigeration unit on the highway to Pecos put us 5+ hours behind schedule and we arrived WELL after dark. Sadly - the good news ended there. As we drove up 3 15-20# black dogs charged the van. One went under the van (we were already stopped thank goodness). There were several large dogs barking on the neighbors property 30 ft from our camping spot - the dogs were plenty unhappy that we were there. So were all the neighbors in houses within 60ft of the camp spot. We made the decision to leave as it was 10pm and we had just created way more unending chaos than was reasonable. Being concerned about the dogs who were still running around the van, and wanting to be certain that we didn't hit one, I got out of the van to shoo them away, and give my husband the all clear to move out. The dogs decided that driving me away was their next task. They came at me. I'm in animal rescue - I know what to do to stay safe - but three on one is never good. I wasn't bitten, but each dog did the dart and dash with teeth showing. Had I turned my back, there would have been a bite. This all solidified our decision to leave as we would not have been able to leave the van during our stay, which meant we couldn't have walked our dog. I doubt the general barking would have stopped. I so appreciate the effort to making affordable camping available - but this - isn't it.

Definitely an RV spot with a view! My daughter played with the neighbor’s kids and still talks about how much fun she had. Very safe

Site and cancel policy not for us
We did not stay there. With the directions it was still hard to locate the exact property boundaries. Peter did send some better coordinates than those originally provided on Hipcamp but I had to drive down the road in order to confer service to contact him. When we got to the spot that looked like the photo, there was not a level spot to put our rig that did not have bushes in it. Nice view of the mountain but did not work for our 19ft rig. I think we may have left even if it did fit- the properties surrounding leave a lot to be desired and we didn’t feel safe leaving our rig unattended. The website would not let us cancel day of. We did pick up on the roosters and dogs others have mentioned.
