Caja Caliente is a remote and off-grid 5 acre parcel that is used for recreational camping. It has been an amazing place to view the Milky-way and Stars throughout the year. Caja Caliente is located on West Road in the Big Bend Valley region of the Terlingua Ranch, with stunning views of 9-Point Mesa, Red Bluff, Black Hill, and some amazing sunsets. Summer months can be extremely hot and dry, so bring enough water. The camping is primitive so all trash should be carried out by campers. Please take care of the Porta-Potty so that it remains in good condition for other campers. (Please report any unsatisfactory conditions to Zach). Noe's Nest camping shelter is by reservation only. The property corners are staked with G227 and all campers must remain within those property boundaries while camping. All campers must obey observed burn-bans due to drought conditions. Be advised..... The host is NOT at the property. You will receive a welcome packet 48 hours before your arrival with detailed instructions for arrival and campsites. Please, enjoy the beauty of West Texas!

Caja Caliente - Primitive Camping
I was such a Nice place with the greatest view I’ve ever seen in campsites. The toilet was cleaned and had a lot of toilet paper. I would love to stay here again.

Caja Caliente - Primitive Camping
Difficult to find
You can't hardly beat the price, so it's hard to be overly negative, but the biggest issue I had was finding it. The entire area is in a dead zone with no cell phone service, which was expected, so I was relying on the hosts written directions. I wasted about 45 minutes driving back and forth looking for the road I was supposed to turn onto off of the main highway and eventually knocked on a random person's door and asked for help. When I eventually found the "road" there was nothing whatsoever marking it as the road I was looking for, and it had two real estate signs near the entrance which made it even more confusing as it looked like a private drive. Once I finally arrived I spoke to other campers staying here and heard similar stories of having trouble finding it. Lastly, the entrance into the parking area is just steep enough that any non high clearance vehicle will bottom out and have trouble making it off the road. Parking on the road wasn't a big deal as the camping area is close by, but it would be very easy to decrease the height of the driveway approach and make it more drivable for all vehicles. Solar lights on the outhouse weren't working, but that wasn't an issue as I had a headlamp. Everything else was as expected and no issues.

Caja Caliente - Noe's Nest Shelter
There are a few points we'd want campers to be aware of before planning to stay: First, Noe's Nest is not its own site. Other campers are able to park right next to it and the reservation is only for the A-frame. Second, it's not a drive-up site. If no one is parked at the clearing marked "Caja Caliente", located just a few feet next to the A-frame, you can park and set up there. But if others are parked there, it would not be easily possible to get to the A-frame if you have a lot of gear. Last, the road to the site is very rough and not clearly marked. Downloaded directions and higher clearance vehicles / capable tires would be good to have. Our experience: We arrived to find a car and three tents set up where we thought our site was, marked "Caja Caliente". No one was there. We waited for a couple of hours, hoping to be able to get what we booked but had to leave once it was getting dark. We were actually concerned for the other campers' safety and so once we had a signal, we notified the host that a) we believed someone had taken our site; and b) we were concerned they might be in trouble. We did not return and did not get a response until nearly midnight. Site Condition: Beautiful landscape, completely isolated. A-frame is in good condition. There was a broken folding table that appeared to be left-behind garbage on site. In the portable toilet building, my husband found very bloody paper towels. We did not keep our reservation - we left and would not book again.

Caja Caliente - Primitive Camping
Tranquil Spot Near Big Bend
We had a really lovely stay at Caja Caliente. This was a surprise find after searching many sites for a place to camp during spring break. How lucky we were to find this beautiful location with quiet views and gorgeous night skies. There is a port a potty on site, which was clean and maintained. The property was clean and there was no garbage to be seen. There were only four tents on the land while we were there and all were respectful of the tranquility of the location.

Clean and fun place to 🏕 camp! The A frame is a nice little getaway spot. You could bring a yoga mat and enjoy the spot. The stars are nice out there
