The town of Ilbilbie is located in the center of the locality. However, the larger town of Greenhill is located on the coast of the locality.
The Bruce Highway passes through the locality from south to north passing through the town of Ilbilbie. The North Coast railway line passes through the locality from south to north, very close to the highway. The Ilbilbie railway station served the town (21.7035°S 149.3557°E). The Koota railway station to the south of the town (21.7213°S 149.3596°E) is now abandoned.
The land to the east of the highway and railway line is close to the coast and is low-lying land mostly used to grow sugarcane. There is a sugarcane tramway through this area.
The land to the west of the highway and railway is more mountainous, rising to 430 metres at Bulls Head Bluff. The West Hill State Forest is in the far west of the locality'5+ years ago we moved onto the block and we enjoyed it so much we decided we wanted to share a piece of it with others. Since then we've created a camp at the back of the block surrounded by a creek for campers (tents, SUV'S, Camper Trailers or off-road caravans) to enjoy.
To make you stay a great experience we've added some shade sails, portaloos, firepit, bbq sink and gas heated outdoor shower. Dog friendly also.
All campers need to be self contained and remove all rubbish when they leave. Bookings only via Hipcamp.
This is bush camping at its best, being totally off the grid and private!
You can pick to enjoy the solitude or seek out some new friends to either way enjoy your stay. A seasonal creek to camp against sets the scene for some time alone and surrounds of bush for you to explore,
There are no set places to camp so you get to pick the spot you like and set up camp no problems. The mowed field along the creek called the Scout camp (A area donated to the Sarina Scouts for camp time) is we are starting the camping off. If you see a spot you would like to camp at let us know and we can help you prepare it for next time you visit.
The surrounding areas also holds some gems like the Cape Palmerston National Park, Greenhills boat ramp Beaches and places to explore. The locals are quite lucky to enjoy the fishing and crabbing in the area and regularly reap lots of the rewards from these spots.
The nearby Ilbilbie service station provides you with all the fuel, bait, ice and supplies you need for the day and the perishables you need for daily camping, and if your feeling a bit slack they do a pretty mean burger from the kitchen.
The Ilbilbilie Block is work in progress and if there is more interest we will do more to jazz up the place.
